Cozy Finds for Our Screened Porch

As I’m just starting to think about cooler Fall evenings on our screened porch, I find myself wanting to add a few cozy touches. Plus, little changes always make me feel happier any room in my house–indoor or out. I already had a patterned throw so I threw it over our console table to add some quick, inexpensive pattern. I also found this big woven basket online at Walmart to hold extra pillows and blankets.

It has the feel of an oversized market tote with handles and a cute tassel detail. I think I may order another one for towels or laundry in the boys’ bathroom. I also found the little blue lumbar pillow at Walmart. Lots of texture and detail for just $12.

And one more thing–I added a Carom game board in the corner. We all got hooked on this game when we visited my parents’ house this Summer. Nothing like some fierce competition to make everyone put their screens down (for a few minutes, at least).

I’ve found that the main difference in getting my twins ready for school in the mornings is that he’s perfectly happy to wear athletic shorts and a t-shirt every day of the week. No hard decisions and I’m fine with that. His sister, on the other hand, likes options–and lots of them. One morning, she may wake up feeling like Sporty Spice and the next, Fancy Nancy. A girl has to be prepared for any mood–right? I’m doing a lot of her back-to-school shopping at Walmart this year for that very reason. New Art + Vintage Frames

If your decor is starting to feel a little stale, new art is one of the easiest ways to freshen up a vignette (or an entire wall). Artwork doesn’t have to be expensive or even a huge effort to find, thanks to the huge Art.com collection that you can now shop online at Walmart. You can find almost any style and size you’re looking for, framed/unframed/canvas, you name it. I recently updated this little space in our dining room/office with a vintage inspired blue heron print and a vintage frame I already had.

If you come across a good custom, vintage frame when you’re thrifting, it never hurts to ignore the art and tuck it away. This was custom with a good mat that had faded over time. I disassembled it and sponge painted the existing mat to give it a whole new look. I ordered the 16×20 print for just $9–a pretty and super affordable update.
