When I asked which “Fast Favorites” you’d like to see, several readers requested a post on flush mounts. I’ve had to shop for several since this house has lower ceilings than our last, and there are actually some really pretty options. The scalloped one I used in our living room is my favorite–just dressy enough without overtaking the smallish space.

The weather is warm and (most of) the pollen is gone, which makes me very happy and ready to work on sitting up our porch this weekend. Continuing my “fast favorites” series, I’m sharing five options for outdoor rugs that are durable and have good reviews. (They could also work well in a kids’ room or high traffic spot.) I like the idea of adding some pattern/color to a porch or patio to perk up solid and dark outdoor furniture.

I’m attempting a new series called “Fast Favorites” where I’ll share (approximately) five quick links to products or ideas centered around a specific theme. I’m kicking it off with a handful of good bedside lamps.

I notice that a lot of people tend to err on the side of too small and too skinny lamps for their bedside tables so that they almost get lost in the mix. Beds themselves are big elements of a room, and lamps that have some bulk help to add the needed weight and balance. As a general rule, I like to stick to bedside lamps that are at least 26″ tall, but preferably 28-30″ and have a fuller base.
