This project started as many of my more ambitious projects do. I was in my youngest daughter’s room, telling her good night, which led to me staring at her big, blank wall. I suddenly jumped up and started taping off vertical lines and playing around with a design. This is how I began hand painting a patterned wall.
If you look closely, you can see that it’s far from perfect. In fact, one of my kids asked “if they were all supposed to look different.” (Ugh.) It’s good to remember when tackling a project like this, you’re going for overall impact–not precision. (It’s also good to regularly remind yourself that you’re saving a lot of money by not buying wallpaper.)

Love it – looks great.
What do kids know anyway? 😂 It looks amazing.
You did a fantastic job! Adds so much character!
Very very nice. Such an impact.
This looks so good!!!!!
This looks beautiful! ❤️
This looks beautiful! ❤️
It turned out so nice. It’s so cute!
What a change! Very good job!!!
It looks amazing! I bought wallpaper for exactly one accent wall for my 2 year old daughter’s nursery – just ONE wall in a normal sized room cost me close to $500.00. I would definitely try something like this going forward! I’m thinking of trying it in our small powder room.
Beautiful!
It looks terrific! I wish I had the energy and patience to do this.
Funny! I love it—looks great!
I think it looks great, and the hand painted imperfection is part of what makes it look so amazing!
They are all supposed to look different. Just like snowflakes. I have been trying to find a pattern I would like to use to do this in a small foyer. Just need to stop over thinking it and dive in.
I love it! Great job.
It looks beautiful! What a terrific idea. I’m inspired! :)
Brilliant! 🩵
Love it!
It looks amazing and the imperfections are part of the beauty!
Perfectly imperfect IS perfect! I adore this and may copy it 😊
I’ve been thinking of doing something like this in my bathroom. Thanks for the inspiration!
That wall looks stunning and it will last better than wallpaper. The design is great and the color really shows the design. I learned to dislike wallpaper after my Mom paid a lot of money for a certain wallpaper and had it applied by a professional. I hated seeing the join lines and after a while they collected dust.
I was thinking of doing something in the back of a bookcase and now I know exactly what I am going to do – Thank you for sharing your creation!!!
