I’m sharing a little decorating shortcut that might help if you’re trying to decide on painting a console table or entryway chest. The chartreuse chest I have in this corner wasn’t working with the rug so I threw a dark green table cloth over it at Christmas. After living with it for a while, I decided I liked the look of a “skirted” table but thought a pattern might be more fun. I kept going back to the image of the striped table in Michelle’s living room.
But, if you’ve priced a large patterned tablecloth lately (I originally used a 108″ round) or a custom skirted console, you might have sticker shock. Both options were way more than I wanted to pay for a decorating “experiment”. Instead, I ordered this king duvet on Amazon that was on sale for under $35 and gave it a go.
For reference, the dimensions of the chest I covered are 46″ x 29″ x19″. The weight of the duvet was just heavy enough so that I could add “pleats” to the corners by folding and they would stay in place. You can see that it doesn’t quite hit the floor on the sides.
I don’t know that I’ll leave it forever, but for $35, it’s a fun change and I can always throw stripes on a bed later. I styled it using a few books, some leaned art, a decorative box that belonged to my grandmother and a glass hurricane.
So glad you’re back to blogging. I love this budget conscious update.
I had an expensive skirted round silk table in my den for years until the colors just didn’t work anymore. I love this and think it’s brilliant that you used a duvet. And, I love the look!! Thank you for blogging again. 💗💗
I skirted my console with a painter’s drop cloth from Home Depot. It’s a rough cotton weave with nice texture in a light greige color. Perfect for simplifying this piece of furniture and a good neutral to go with anything.
That’s a great idea!
Well $13 later from Home Depot, and I have to say that my old Ikea bookshelf has a new life! Thanks for the ideas!
So glad you are back blogging! You’ve been missed but so glad you have just been soaking in all the time with your family. It’s hard to do though! :)
