As many things as I love about fall, the shorter amount of daylight is not one of them. To psyche myself up, I like to walk around the house and do a little evening ritual of switching on lamps (and turning off any overhead lights), lighting a candle and putting my living room back together from the after-school rush–if only for a moment. I believe they call this zhushing, and it helps.
I don’t pull out a lot of different accessories for the change of seasons, but I did recently add a tiny (and very inexpensive) lamp to the bookshelves behind my sofa and a glass candle holder to our coffee table. Maybe no one else here appreciates the ambiance but I do. . .
My best advice for adding fall to your home? Add mood lighting in the form of accent lamps and candles. Bring in texture with a velvet pillow or two or velvet curtains, if you’re more ambitious. Layer a chunky throw blanket over the back or side of your sofa. My personal approach is simple and definitely not theme-y. As an example, here’s a little collection of fall accessories–all found on Amazon.
Once again , glad you’re back!
Thanks! :)
Are you using the remote control lightbulb idea for the lamp on the bookshelf?
No, I just drilled a hole in the back and ran a cord down.
Thank you for all the hard work I know it takes to research and develop your blog. It is so informative and I very much enjoy the items you feature.
Thank you Emily!!
So glad you enjoy it! Thanks.
I’m so happy you’re back! I love your blog so much! Your home is a favorite. So beautiful!! Do you have a source for your coffee table?
Thanks, Rachel! I found that table at a thrift store years ago when we lived in our last house. I have no idea who makes it.
