If you’ve ever wondered if you can spray paint a fabric lamp shade, I’m sharing this little DIY project that really couldn’t have been easier. I often look right past used shades and go straight for the lamps when I’m thrifting. But I saw this small (slightly yellowed) pleated one for $3 and thought it was worth experimenting.
- Start by thoroughly wiping off the dust and dirt with a damp cloth. (I missed a few spots and spray paint will show it off.)
- I wanted to keep the inside of my shade paint-free so I used a paper plate, cutting the border off and putting it back on to make it fit just right. I just used a piece of tape to hold it together.
- I didn’t use a special fabric paint. I had a gloss blue handy so I just tried it and it worked beautifully.
- I started by spraying vertically and then doing a second light coat horizontally. The key is to use a light hand, getting even coverage.
