The number one spot on my “Good Things” list goes to the recent social media and blog break I took toward the end of the year. Online had become a not-so-fun place to be and as I ease back into Instagram, in particular, I’m reminding myself that if it’s not making my days happier, it’s okay to take breaks as needed. I used the time away to tinker with my own house without documenting it, to rearrange some furniture just for the fun of change, to study pictures of rooms that I love (like this one by Gordon Dunning), and to remember why I like doing this in the first place.
Here are a few of the other good things I discovered in January:
I just added these cute hand towels to the girls’ bathroom.
I’ve now ordered three different sets of these lightweight frames in an effort to complete a new gallery wall upstairs.
These are my very favorite leggings. (And, I’ve washed them a ton with no problems.) However, for the price, these come in a close second.
And speaking of comfortable pants, I bought these in two colors.
Also love from Old Navy: this animal print sweatshirt and this tunic sweatshirt (runs a size big).
These delicate earrings are in my current rotation.
Why haven’t I bought a set of these magnetic measuring spoons before now?
I also added another (badly needed) nonstick skillet to my kitchen.
I love a long sweater–and this one has a great pattern.
Love the idea of these durable leather cube ottomans.
I recently watched all five seasons of Greenleaf on Netflix like it was my job. Have you watched this? I’ve also been listening to the soundtracks on Apple Music.
A list of the 10 best books I read in 2020. I’d say this one was my very favorite.
Hi Emily,
I’ve missed you and all your writings. Love your lists too! Especially what you have read lately! You inspired me years ago to get back to reading. Thought if a woman with five children and such a busy life can find time to read I could too!
Thank you for everything!
I love Greenleaf.
Now I have to go work through the multiple tabs I just opened reading through this post. :)
So glad you’re posting again! Love your style and always appreciate your book suggestions. Some of my favorites last year were A Good Neighborhood, Florence Adler Swims Forever, Evie Drake Starts Over, American Dirt, The Dearly Beloved, This Tender Land, The Pull of the Stars. Hope you find something you enjoy!
Take breaks whenever you need! These are not easy times and I can’t imagine with children at home. We will greet you with welcome, open arms when you share more wonderful design ideas. It should be as fun for you as it is for us!
Oh my gosh. I’m so glad I read this today. I have been a follower for years but so many days there just isn’t time for blog reading. Today I made the time. I have the towels added to cart and the book in my want-to-read list on Goodreads. I’ve never bought anything for myself at Old Navy but you have me intrigued. I love how they look. Thanks for sharing your wins this month.
Color me inspired,
Pamela
Thank you for the book list especially! I have enjoyed other books you’ve recommended.
