I’ve written about how easy peel and stick wallpaper is to install, but this is the first time I’ve had any actual experience with removing it. I thought I would let you know that it 100 percent lives up to the hype. I had it down in about three minutes and my walls were completely fine underneath, even after having it up for almost four years. As someone who has sat in a hot powder room with a wallpaper steamer for the good part of a week scraping small pieces of paper off, I will never (ever ever ever) hang wallpaper that requires paste again.
And in case you were wondering, I bit the bullet and went with this idea. Here’s a peek mid-paint job that I snapped this morning.

Were your walls painted with flat, eggshell or semi gloss paint?I have read that peel and stick wallpaper should be put on walls painted in semi gloss paint.
I’m really not sure because they didn’t paint that wall during our remodel because I knew was doing wallpaper. My guess is that it was flat.
Hi Gigi, last weekend I wallpapered one wall in my office with peel and stick. The walls were painted with flat paint and it worked out just fine. All I did was wipe them down first (to remove dust).
Wow! Gorgeous, already! Did you need to clean the walls before painting? I’ve been looking at paint chips since early December and still haven’t decided on a color, but am very tempted to try some peel and stick wallpaper in a small area off of my hall. Looking forward to seeing your finished space, Emily, and as always, thanks for inspiring us all!
Gasp! So pretty🙌.
I’ve been stuck trying to figure out how to accurately calculate how much paper I would need. I’ve even tried some of the calculators on line and am still confused! Any tips?
I find it so confusing. (My dad helped 😊) I ordered from Spoonflower and I believe they will help you.
Thanks to your previous post, I have peel-and-stick wallpaper in my laundry room and behind our pellet stove. I love it! I will love it even more if I ever remove it, now you’ve said it lives up to the hype. That being said, that green is divine!! Can’t wait to see the end result.
Looks great! Paint the trim, too!
Thanks for this post. Def good to know you had such success. Love your painted walls as well.
Looks pretty matching wall. Going to miss that wallpaper, though
Redeeming the time! I’m painting in my home too :) I can’t wait to see your kitchen fully green!
Love the painted wall! Can’t wait to see the evolution!
Hello! I was wondering if you had to do anything to remove adhesive before you painted? Love your style!
I didn’t. There wasn’t any sticky residue left on the walls.
