In putting together this post, I realized that I wear the same few things over and over again when I actually get dressed to leave my house. You don’t care what I wear when I’m at home (trust me, it’s not aspirational), but here are the kinds of pieces that are in my closet right now. And good news–most are on sale since we’re only days away from the Instagram too-early-for Fall-filtration of turtleneck sweaters and hot lattes that comes immediately after the 4th of July. (PS–All images are linked.)
Oh, the pleasure of shopping for swimsuits in your 40s! My best fit are the suits from J. Crew. I also stay in these inexpensive sunglasses. I just buy them in bulk because I know I’ll lose them. (I’ve never had a pair of nice ones.) And my favorite pool/beach hat is less than $15.
My go-to Summer look is a white top with jeans or cute shorts. Easy and I’ve never met a cute white top I didn’t like. And when I’m feeling crazy, I also like to mix in some big patterns in loose tunic styles.
Pull-on shorts for the win. Summer is not the time for buttons. (The ones I linked to from Walmart are under $20.) I’m a fan of the studio tees from J. Crew Factory, which is also where I got the $9 ear jackets I’ve been wearing every day. And, I always like a rattan or straw bag. (I carry this little circular crossbody all the time.)
Midi-length dresses are my favorite. They look good with sandals or strappy heels if you want to dress them up. Also, if you need a casual tank dress (which I’ve also worn over my swimsuit), the one I linked to is under $10 and comes in a ton of colors. Another good Summer look: a longer skirt paired with a chambray shirt tied at the waist.
