I’m back with another “Styling Simplified” post where I give you a grouping of accessories built around a specific look. This one is based on the idea of “black and white modern” and could be used to liven up the dullest tan couch or most neutral of living rooms. Black and white modern works with almost any style because of its simplicity and clean lines. And, one of the best things about this color palette: you can always rotate pops of color in and out alongside it.
Quick tip: Don’t get caught up on mixing different shades of whites, creams, etc. It’s totally fine to do and actually adds depth. I’ve also included some paint suggestions to go along with this look; all colors are by BEHR.

Hi Emily–I love this design inspiration for my son’s bedroom design (14). When I rip up the carpet we have black and white checked tile and under that horrible vinyl there is wood somewhere but the pain of removing glued on vinyl has me stressed. What do you think about adding a run on top of the vinyl black and white floor? What style of run would work well with a large black and white check? I would love to hear your ideas. Thanks,
Necolle
What about a colorful oriental rug?
Emily, thank you for clarifying mixing shades of white, cream, etc. I have wondered about this. Great post and so helpful!
I made the mistake of making sure my whites were all the exact same. Now I’m trying to undo those white items. #costlymistake 🤦♀️
I just can’t. I have to have color! Good ideas though.
I totally understand that ;)
