As I started thinking back over the last year for this post, I have to admit I can’t even remember if some of these things really happened in 2018. (Is that a sign of old age?) So, these are some of my favorites from the last twelve months as best I can remember. . .
Favorite change to our home: Thankfully, there were no major renovation projects this year but the smaller changes we made were a lot of fun. Changing out the lighting above our kitchen table and the addition of a patterned sofa were my top picks. (More to come on the new sofa later this month.)
Favorite Amazon purchase: Believe me, there were a lot of orders to choose from, but most of them were for the kids. . . My personal favorite were the faux topiaries I ordered for our porch last Spring. They’re holding up beautifully and I feel like I’ve already got my money’s worth.
Favorite book: I’ll go with The Summer I Met Jack. I love historical fiction and this felt like the perfect Summer read–especially if you have any interest in the Kennedys. (You can see more of my original review here.)
Favorite fashion find: Do the world’s most comfortable pajama pants/joggers count? If not, I pick the Who What Wear line from Target. Trendy, great prices and I’ve been able to find several cute midi dresses. (I always find a ton more online than in my store, by the way.)
Favorite beauty finds: I’ve already mentioned several of these in previous posts but I feel like they’re worth mentioning again because I’ve stuck with them consistently over the past year. Rose hip oil is my new favorite facial moisturizer and the best thing I’ve found for removing eye makeup easily. (Side note: I recommend this brand. I tried another one and the smell was gross. I don’t even really notice this one having a scent.)
I’ve also found a combination of hair products I like and have reordered each of these multiple times. I love this pre-blowdry spray, this root lifter and this dry shampoo.
Favorite podcast: I’m hooked on the Big Boo Cast, which is basically two 40-something-year-old moms talking about nothing with lots of technical difficulties in the mix. I’m pretty sure it would be exactly what my podcast would be like if I had one. . . They’ve quickly become my favorite laundry room friends.
Favorite adventure: Even if it was only for a few days, going to Aruba (by ourselves!) was such a treat. We loved where we stayed, the island jeep adventure and floating in clear blue water for hours. Happy times.
And a few personal highlights: In my “real life”, I’ve loved another year of singing with my church choir and the friends I’ve made there. I also had a great time in NYC with my best friend Katie celebrating our birthdays. And, the year ended with us surprising the kids with a Disney cruise for their upcoming Spring break. Their reactions were worth the ridiculous amount of money this trip is going to cost (I think).
Anything else you want to know? :)
Love this, Emily! Thank you for taking the time to share your life and thoughts. I love reading your blog, and I’m so glad that you keep it up. It makes me want to blow the (super thick) layer of dust off my blog and start writing again. :)
You should do it!
Love everything on your list!! I found out about Rose hip oil from the Big Boo Cast!! Love them as well. I use his mascara and have fallen in love.
Thank you Emily!! You are one of the few voices I listen to.
Happy New Year to you and your family.

Melissa
Yes, that’s where I found out about rose hip, too. They are so funny :)
Hi Emily, I found you on Instagram and am now a follower. I was hoping you could share your source for the fantastic green Ilat wallpaper in you kitchen eating area. I love it but have come up short on my search attempts . Thank you.
Thanks, Kim. It’s from Spoonflower. Search “emerald ikat.”
Thank You!
Do you have that Leopard dress from Target? There are no reviews so just wondering what you think. Thanks
I don’t, but only because I don’t want to turn into the crazy leopard print lady. ;) I may be overdoing it this season. . .
YES!!! I usually listen to Big Boo cast podcast running errands by myself – always laughing out loud with helpful tidbits listening to Sophie and Melanie. A favorite podcast also!
Thank you Emily! I was looking for a new podcast and tried the big boo cast and just love it. They are so hilarious! Thanks for sharing your favorites – I enjoy your blog so much :)
