Quick Change: Faux Bamboo Dining Chairs

July 18, 2018

Today, I’m sharing one of my best Facebook Marketplace finds to date and some very kid-friendly fabric you might be interested in checking out. I wasn’t even looking for dining chairs when I found this faux bamboo set listed for a steal. (And, six hours later, they were in my in my garage. . .)

The only kicker was that they didn’t come with cushions and definitely had to have them.

I wanted something with no maintenance so I started looking at vinyl. After ordering–and returning–an inexpensive embossed ostrich vinyl that looked way too shiny, I decided it was worth shopping around and paying a little more per yard. I ended up going with this light blue linen-lookalike:

For reference, I needed three yards for this project and my upholsterer charged me $60 per chair in labor.

By the way, I guess this room has given up the title of being called my office. I’m forever working in a comfortable chair or on the porch with my laptop so for now, we’re calling it the dining room again. . . .

Such a pretty room! I, too, found a set of these on CL and moved fast! I have white walls and black chairs, but I love your dark walls with white… might be time for a change in my dining room. :) Can you tell me about your curtain fabric? Love the foliage print on them.

They are perfect for your dining room, and so funny that more seem to be available on fb😃
Did I miss it, but are they wood or metal?

Emily, This room is gorgeous. It should be in a magazine. Love the navy walls with the chinoiserie cabinet popping and the beautiful drapes. The chairs really add to the look. Love the light fixture, too. Those cushions for 60.00 are a steal.

I am remodeling my kitchen with of course white shaker cabinets and am looking at brushed gold knobs. I have ordered a bunch and none of them are the perfect ones yet. Now that your kitchen is done, do you like the champagne gold knobs or do you wish they were more gold? And where did you source the backsplash? Is that to the trade only and if so can I source it through you?

I adore faux bamboo and your new chairs look amazing! Two years ago, I sold my French farmhouse table and chairs and bought a vintage Drexel faux bamboo dining table and matching chairs. My hubby lacquered the table and chairs white and I had the chairs upholstered in a blue leopard print and it looks beautiful. I recently bought a faux bamboo mirror for my dining room as well.

This is genius! I was going to have some fabric laminated for seat cushions, but this is much simpler. I ordered a swatch from the Charlotte Fabrics website.

There were made for this room! So beautiful. Can you share what you paid? I’m looking for kitchen chairs and would love these, but have no idea what to pay for new or used chairs. I wish I had an “upholsterer”!

I got the set for $150 which is less than you can usually find a single chair for so I was pretty pumped. :) And, I totally took a chance by finding an upholsterer on Google. He was fantastic! (Smith Upholstery in Monroe, NC, in case you’re local.)

Emily, your DR looks so nice but I was wondering about the white, round table that seats 4 as I was thinking about using a similar size table. But I can not figure out how I would host Thanksgiving. Most of the time it is just my husband and I for dinner, but when we entertain I don’t know what I would do with a table that only seats 4. I know you have a bigger table in the kitchen, but unfortunately,. our DR is right in the kitchen and is the only eating area in our home. My idea is to maybe use the porch, but I don’t know how practical that would be. Ideas?

I’ve been searching forever for chairs like those. I found a faux bamboo set of 6 on Ebay for 450.00 which I thought was a great price, but then there’s 150.00 for shipping. Even though that’s still a good price for 6 faux bamboo/chinoisorie chairs, I would prefer the deal you got for 150.00! I was surprised they were metal. I love you chinoiserie china cabinet, too. If you would ever want to sell it, I’ll be the first in line! Love your decorating ideas!!!

Love the color contrast, what is the specific shade of paint you used for the dining room?
