Our Screened Porch (+ Adding a TV)

July 12, 2018

Although I just redecorated our screened porch last year, we’ve once again changed things up and it’s working even better for our family. It’s all the same furniture, but we reversed the layout and added a TV, which has given us the feeling of an extra living room. This is my favorite reading spot and, as I mentioned in my Instagram story yesterday, my preferred place to meet Alex Trebek at 7pm every night.

I have to admit, I’ve been having outdoor furniture envy when I see all of the light/white pieces on some of my favorite patios. But our Target furniture is still going strong after six years so we’re going with it. Instead, I picked up several bright white pieces for our porch this year and added color with some new pillows.

Side note: I think Target may be discontinuing its Belvedere line. There’s little left online. But, I linked to a similar set–and sources for everything else (or similar items)–at the end of this post.

I know someone is going to ask how we hung the TV. This is not my speciality. (Remember, I’m strictly the “idea girl.”) My husband and his friend executed my plan. ;) But. . . I can tell you we used this bracket and bought this TV. It’s not made specifically for outdoors; those are way pricier so we decided to take our chances under the covered porch.

So inviting! I imagine with five children, the porch is a nice place to have some quiet. Proof again that a little imagination can transform a space’s use.

It looks fabulous, Emily! You will LOVE having the tv out there, I’m sure it’s everyone’s new favorite spot (especially when it cools off a bit)! Love all of your pretty blue and white planters.

We have had a regular (non-outdoor) TV on our screened porch for 6 years and it still works great! Your porch looks so inviting!

    Emily.
I love EVERY. THING. YOU. DO.
you have stellar and impeccable taste, obviously, because it’s exactly the same as mine;)
I just received the topiaries that are on your front porch you recently shared, and I love them.
I’ve forever needed something on my porch as it gets hot in the late afternoon and I couldn’t keep
anything watered near enough. These are perfect- thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful spaces with us!

So glad they worked for you! I’m also enjoying not dragging the hose out every night in the front of the house ;)

Emily, you are in Charlotte,my hometown,I am in Greenville,SC .How do you keep your beautiful furniture from getting wet during the downpours we had not long ago.It has been so hot here that it’s hard to use our porch much. We have pretty much the same floor plan. We watch weather reports daily and just store our cushions and pillows according.Such a pain. Your porch really looks cool and beautiful.

Last week’s monsoon was one of the first times our cushions got wet. The rain never comes in from that direction. (Our porch is east-facing.)

How nice! Having a screened-in-porch is something I’ve always wanted. Adding a TV would put it over the top.

We have a TV outdoors overlooking the patio and the pool. It isn’t specifically designed for outdoor use but has lasted at least six years (and we live in S FL). We keep it covered with an outdoor chair cover when not in use and of course bring it inside when hurricanes threaten. I’m sure you’ll have good luck with yours. In my dreams my patio looks as nice as your screened porch but in reality… not so much. Thanks for the inspiration!

I finally convinced my husband that we need a tv in our courtyard. Ours will also be mounted to the back of our fireplace. I’m glad that you mentioned that your tv is not outdoor specific. I didn’t want to spend all that money on an outdoor tv especially since it will live under the covered part of the courtyard. Now I feel much more confident with my choice and ready to move forward. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home.

I love it all, Emily! We live in the Raleigh area and keep a regular TV on our screened porch as well. It’s an older Vizio so if it dies, we’re not too worried, but my husband bought this cover from Amazon and it keeps everything dry and even has a little pocket for the remote.

We keep it covered during the week when we’re too busy to watch TV out there or when we know there’s a stretch of rain in the forecast. Our TV isn’t mounted (yet!) so we do bring it in during the coldest part of the winter, but otherwise it stays out year round. We love watching movies out there and it’s our number one spot for football in the fall – even though the inside TVs are bigger and better! :)

Looks amazing! Sorry if It is there and i missed it, but do you have the source for the lemon pillows? I’ve been looking for a print to incorporate those exact colors!
