Reintroducing Red In Our Home

May 23, 2018

It wasn’t intentional but bits of red have have been popping up around our house. I love how red energizes a vignette–perfect for Summer decorating. I used it in some of the kids’ rooms and it has slowly worked its way into our main living areas. The current red trend is bright (think vibrant orangey/tomato/etc.) and feels modern when just a small amount is added to a space. (And it just happens to work so well with all of the blue and white I love.)

Yes, you can paint lampshades. (See my IG stories.)

I’m currently carrying a red tote and just painted my toes a bright red. Might be the first time they have ever been red! It definitely is having a moment right now.

Red has never gone away completely in our house whether it’s popular or not. :) I did decide to de-emphasize it when we moved to coastal South Carolina two years ago. It is subtle in some of our upholstery but chose to pull-out other colors in the fabrics (like in our two chairs in the living room that coordinate with our large, expensive leather sofa that’s staying:). So, we have some textured deep blue throw pillows, some bright contemporary art with pops of the exact blue needed (thanks to your inspiration posts) and a new rug that’s mainly a blue-green color. Looks more like it all belongs down here now!

I almost didn’t make it to the end of your post with my quick detour to grab those blue and white chinoiserie pillows! I’ve been in love with the Schumacher chinoiserie pillows for some time but didn’t want to pay that much. These were as beautiful and less expensive. As far as red goes, I’m not ready to let it back in yet. With our previous Texas Tuscan-style home, it was overdone and I can’t go back yet- though it’s beem some time and the new red is fresher. 🙂

Yes!! Red makes me happy, so I use it whether or not it’s “in”.
