After posting our dining room/office on Instagram earlier this week, I had some questions about the paint color and realized I haven’t posted much about any of the colors in this house. I still have spaces left to paint but these are two of my favorites I’ve used so far, if you’re looking for a good black or (light) blue.
In our home office/dining room, I used a shade from Clark + Kensington’s collaboration with OPI nail colors. It’s called Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! and is sold at Ace Hardware stores. Have fun asking for that one at the paint counter. (You can see the other OPI shade I used in our house here.) It’s what I would consider a “soft” black–rich without being harsh.
It took me a while to settle on a color for our small(ish) living room that doesn’t get a lot of natural light. I ended up painting everything from the chair rail down a glossy white and used Palace Pearl from Benjamin Moore’s Williamsburg collection on the upper walls. It has just enough gray in it that it doesn’t come across as a “beachy” blue and works more like a neutral. It’s very calming and I like the way it looks layered with deeper blue accessories and fabrics. I also recently threw some rust and chartreuse in the mix. . .
Love love the chartreuse faux bamboo piece!! I painted our dining room turned library black for a previous One Room Challenge I did and I love it!!! Love your black walls – it takes some courage but once it’s all black it is do fabulous!
I don’t think I could ask for that black paint color and keep a straight face! 😂 Love it all- looks great!
Miss Emily, I like your decorating style so much. It’s beautifully classic, inviting and comfortable. And that beautiful pink orchid? Wow! This summer, I trained one to one of Areca Palms (SW Florida) and it’s getting ready to bloom. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks! Wish I could take credit for the orchid, but I ordered it from One Kings Lane ;)
I’ll never tell ;)
I love black rooms. They seem so crisp & yet cozy.
Always love seeing your rooms, Emily!
I love your rooms!!! I do have a question…how do you watch TV with the sofa back to it? The position seems strange. I know it is always hard to tell from pictures. Maybe this is just perfect. Your style is wonderful and I am not being critical , just curious.
We sit on the couch facing the TV :) Really, it’s rare we’re all in this room at the same time. But, you can lay at the end of the other couch and see the TV. I like how it feels tucked away.
Love that Palace Pearl color—perfect! Thanks for sharing.
Great! I have really enjoyed your post. Appreciated….
I love the darkness of the dining and equally love the lightness of the living room. Both are interesting and beautiful.
Where did you get the large green ceramic lamp? It is so lovely.
At a Habitat ReStore :)
What color did you use on the ceiling with the soft black?
It was already painted so I’m not sure of the color…
Love it all. The black just makes everything in the room stand-out. Thanks for sharing.
Emily,
I’ve enjoyed your blog forever….striking color combinations and always that ” WOW” factor.
On a recent trip to the North Georgia Mountains hubby and I had to stop at an estate sale in a small Ga town ( IN A CONVERTIBLE). I snagged several gorgeous pieces INCLUDING the exact same LeBarge Italian Gilded Mirror shown over your large chest! Imagine my shock and joy when I saw yours, knowing I paid a mere $25 for mine! Now….if only I could muster the courage to paint my foyer black !!
Great find! Sounds like a fun trip :)
I love everything, so pretty! What paint brand and color is the bamboo cabinet?
Everything is so perfect.
I have a tapestry store have a look here

Hi! Could you let me know where you got the candle holder on coffee table? Thanks!
First of All— u look beautiful in the leopard dress at your froNt door.
Are u still pleased with your blush pink bedroom color and the palace pearl blue in YOUR den. I know its been up a while, fo u have pLans to chG colors this year. Ive got to repaint. Dont want to until i ck out your plans as im sure id love your new ideas.
Still love our blush bedroom and don’t have any plans to change it. I hardly notice that it’s pink anymore :)
I need a faux tree…don’t get enough light to keep a real one alive. Is the one you have linked, the one in the photo? Thanks so much…you’re always an inspiration to me!
Yes–I believe it was same one! :)
I love the Palace Pearl color, so much so that I got a sample can for my family room. The sample doesn’t have enough gray to give it the sophistication I see in your room or in the swatch from the Williamsburg Collection brochure. Is it possible for you to share/post a photo of the formula from your can? Maybe a sample can is too small to get the exact proportions of the formula.
I no longer have the paint can. Sorry :(
Thank you so much for responding. Your blog has been an inspiration to me for years – since well before the twins were born. :)
Thanks for being a long-time reader :)
