A Few Peel & Stick Wallpaper Samples

June 28, 2017

I recently posted about some peel and stick wallpaper options that don’t look like wallpaper at all. Soon after, I was contacted by our local news station to do a quick segment about it and wanted to show you more pictures of the samples I ordered for the show. I found some really good ones and a few new Etsy shops to share with you.

I thought these were the best of the bunch:

shiplap  /  grasscloth  /  marble  /  red brick  /  white brick  /  hex tile

One thing I learned. . . Some companies (like this one) make their papers with a specially formulated wall fabric that can be repositioned over and over again and work well with textured walls. You should just check with the specific seller before ordering.

I thought this “shiplap” looked really good in real life. And so much easier than installing actual shiplap. . .

This “grasscloth” looks so textured. You can’t tell the difference unless you touch it. It’s very similar to the color I used in our powder room.

But my favorite might be this marble lookalike.  I think this would be stunning on a bathroom wall behind a gold mirror. And a roll of this would make an easy backdrop for food or product styling photos. :)

I also found this fun little shop on Etsy that offers a tester kit where you can get several samples of any patterns on their site for just $5. Their papers are washable and opaque, in case you’re trying to cover up a dark wall color.

You can find more ideas for how to use peel and stick wallpaper here.

And you can catch my live TV debut here. :) It was quick and painless.

Inhave been wanting to try some wall paper in my daughter’s room, but our walls have some texture. Do you have personal experience with this?

I’ve never had textured walls but I did check with some of the sellers as mentioned in the post. :)

I am a professional paperhanger. I have clients very unhappy that their peel and stick wallpaper is not adhering well to their textured walls. I don’t recommend it. Just my experience with one of the installs I did.

Love all of the options that are available! Would you mind sharing the source for the blue and white cheetah spots wallpaper featured in the video (2nd from the left)?

It’s this one from Spoonflower: https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/5544977-watercolor-spots-indigo-small-by-dinaramay

My only complaint about their samples is that they don’t come with the adhesive backing…

What is the best advice for a wallpaper adhesive w/ pattern when you have an older house that’s isn’t necessarily even on the top to the ceiling and bottom to the floor?

I’m not exactly sure what you are asking, but avoid patterns that are geometric or a plaid for unplumb walls and ceilings. All over patterns are generally good and don’t emphasize the crooked walls/ceilings. I install professionally.

Great job Emily! Great information and I think this is just in time. We are prepping to sell our home and move our family of 5 into an apt, somewhere btwn 800 -1000 sq ft 🤤 Apt life is very limited in how to decorate and I am already daydreaming about how I will decorate our next place. 1st things 1st… Need to sell our home.

I’ve been looking for peel & stick papers that work with textured walls! Thanks so much for posting these and for also sending the link to your TV debut. I’m in Florida and would not want to miss it. You nailed it! Hugs, CoCo

Great job, Emily! You are an “on-air” natural :) I love this peel wallpaper concept – I wonder how it holds up in a steamy bathroom?

      Thanks, Julie!

I haven’t used it in a bathroom where we shower but I’m thinking it would hold up better to steam than a traditional paper with glue… Anyone else have experience with this?

A steamy bathroom is trouble for any kind of wallpaper, but a bathroom with a fan and a window can take a wallpaper if it is properly primed and applied. I am a professional installer.

Loving the shiplap! Would be great in a bathroom for a rustic, bright look.

Great segment! I love this trend of peel and stick wallpaper and would love to try it. Although I’m hesitant as we had a large map decal for our nursery and it just never seemed straight to us no matter what we did. And getting rid of bubbles seemed impossible! Although that was horizontal and this would be a vertical strip. Do you think this would be any easier than a large horizontal decal? Thanks so much!

Hanging vertically is much easier than hanging horizontally. Just be sure the first piece is plumb. On a big wall it can also be easier to start with the middle piece and then hang pieces to the right and the left. My experience with the peel and stick is that the bubbles are not an issue; the air just comes right out the front. Although the heavier peel and stick vinyls require pushing the air pockets to the side. I am a professional wallcovering installer.
