I feel like half of our house is really coming along, and the other half is completely turned upside down. We are currently three weeks into an overhaul of the upstairs, including a bathroom renovation. I walked through the house snapping pictures to give you a glimpse of the good—and the stuff that eventually will be…
I changed out the chest that was by the back door for a lighter console table.
I’m in the process of framing lots of botanicals (from this book) for our powder room.
After a long search, I finally found a pair of lamps for our living room at Homegoods.
Small changes to our bed. These pillows have been in every room in our house.
Choosing a paint color for our side door. Thanks to the feedback on Instagram, I think I’m sold on blue.
Adding more framed pictures around our house. (I found the lamp also at Homegoods.)
Meanwhile, the other side of my “office” is wrecked. I cleaned out our attic and brought down a bunch of things that haven’t found a place just yet.
Experimenting with pattern here. Not sure this rug is staying in this spot…
On to the upstairs. . . These will be the entrances to the girls’ and boys’ baths.
Don’t be sad but we’re getting rid of all of the carpet—yes, even the mauve.
Behold my new laundry room (which was previously a closet). I requested a pocket door—with a lock. ;)
I’m having a vanity built for the boys—and am 97% sure I love this paper.
Outside, I added a lemon tree. We’ll see what happens! (My Home Depot has them for $44.) We also changed out the light.
.
You have been so busy! Everything looks amazing. I have love all the glimpses you give us!
oh and I would love that rug at the top of the stairs as well. Love it both places!
Love your decorating style, Emily! How you do all of it, though, with five kids amazes me! Oh, I just ordered the botanical book you featured. It was exactly what I was looking for and just “one click”!
Barbara, when I read your comment, something just hit me that I linked to the wrong book! :( I’m so sorry. They’re from the “botanicum” book here: http://bit.ly/2q9gtop. I linked to the animal one in the series by mistake. I think you should be able to cancel your Amazon order within same day… (Link is correct now, btw.)
See, in answer to your question, I don’t do it all. Or at least not very well ;)
I’m so inspired. Thanks for sharing!
I love your style and enjoy seeing the changes in your house – even if they are “in progress”:-)
Oh wow, that’s a MAJOR renovation going on upstairs! And I was just thinking this morning that I needed to add more framed photos to my shelves…
Everything looks great! I love seeing glimpses of life in progress. Just a tip, we painted our back door a dark navy, almost black. Loved it! But the full summer sun turned it into a blazing hot surface when the kids were out playing, sometimes too hot to touch the knob to get in! :)
Love what you’ve done so far, and it certainly gives me hope in the light at the end of the tunnel! We just bought our house in November and I feel like it’s never going to come together. You’ve also inspired me to get more framed pictures – I have NONE, not even one from our wedding in our house! EEK!
I went on a home tour last weekend and loved all of the framed pictures I saw in the houses. It inspired me to drag out some old ones. Why not?!
Looks great, as always, Emily! Can’t wait to see the upstairs once it’s all done- LOVE that paper!!! I know someone requested info on your homemade art on either side of pagoda mirror but never saw info on it….what paint and paper did you use for your abstracts if you don’t mind sharing?
Thanks!!!!!!
So…. I used copier paper and some navy paint I found in my garage. And, THAT would be why I never did an official post ;)
Sounds good:)
I have been diligently looking for Asian-inspired mirrors and love yours. Would you mind sharing where you found them?
I found the faux bamboo one on Craigslist. The pagoda one is from here.
I was wondering if you could suggest a place to look for blue and white planters like you have sprinkled throughout? They’re beautiful, and I want to do something like that as a centerpiece for my dining table. Everything is so incredibly beautiful!
My best finds have been from thrift stores. I also occasionally see blue and white pieces at HomeGoods and Ross–and Etsy is a good source.
Love your home, Emily!! Can you tell me where the dining room light fixture is from? It’s gorgeous! Thanks in advance!
It’s from Shop Ten 25. I love it, too, It’s been in a couple of rooms in our house already…
Thank you!! I found two of the Feiss Murray Diamond pendant at the habitat rehab store and I didn’t think I liked them with the shades until I saw yours!! I was planning on using them without. https://www.lightingdirect.com/feiss-p1375-diamond-1-light-full-sized-pendant/p3008115
You might like to add a solar tube to your laundry. We have them in three areas that don’t have windows and LOVE them. You will love having the laundry near the bedrooms.
Isn’t it fun to give your house some fluffing every now and then. We put hardwoods in our upstairs several years ago. I don’t miss the carpet at all! I am also redoing my very used playroom for my grandchildren. I loved how yours turned out!
Can’t wait to see the final outcome! Know it will be fabulous. Can you tell me the name of the blue/white cheetah print fabric on the two chairs? Love it!
It’s from Ballard Designs: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/mira-blue-fabric-by-the-yard/fabric/indoor-fabric/387836
Your picture of the Chippendale chairs validated my recent purchase of the same chairs. I try to pick classic items for my home & I know you do also. So, thank you !!
I will forever love those chairs :)
love those chairs with that rug! gutsy! x
LOVE that rug with those chairs–and the rattan ottoman–yes please!🙂
LOVE that wallpaper! Reminds me that a few years ago I believe you featured an artist (I believe in Georgia) that had prints of trees and leaves. Do you remember who that was? I am a little obsessed with trees and leaves. Always inspired by your style!
I cannot remember this….. I’ll try to dig through old posts and see if I can figure it out :)
Love it al!! Still dying to see your full completed kitchen!
It’s finally(!) finished. Was actually supposed to be photographed this morning but it’s so cloudy here that we’re waiting until next week… Someday!!
Emily, I am 100% certain I would love that wallpaper in my boys’ bathroom.
Bye bye mauve carpet! Some items from the 1980’s never should have been.
I bet you’ll love your door painted. We live on the Gulf of Mexico (SW Florida) and painted our front door Navy and have never regretted it. Perfect for the hot, rainy season and hot, dry season! Your classic home is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing and inspiring us!
I saw the botanical book on your insta story! I think those look amazing against the grasscloth. And I just happen to have an Amazon gift card burnin’ a hole in my pocket ;) Love, love how your new home is coming together!
Thanks, Michelle. It’s a great book.
Love those botanicals! Wow, you have a lot going on now! Enjoy your weekend and Happy Mother’s Day!
Shelley
Where did you get your ship covers for the parsons chairs in your office?
They’re both from IKEA.
Emily,
Where did you find the seagrass ottoman/ coffee table?
I LOVE everything you do with design. Yours continues to be the only design blog where I feel the ideas are both beautiful and accessible. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and ideas with us.
Thanks, Jody! I found the ottoman on Joss & Main (looks like it’s expected to be back in stock in July).
Thank Emily! Do you ever offer design services? I have so many nooks and crannies that I cannot figure out. I love design, but am stuck and afraid to take the next step. If you are interested in a project please let me know. (Because I am sure you aren’t busy at all with 5 kids and what looks like a pretty significant renovation:)
I don’t offer design services anymore–for exactly the reason you said ;) Thanks for asking, though.
Thanks Emily! The porch looks beautiful!
Emily- I bought the chinoiserie book you recommended and now want to frame the pages just as you have done! Can you share where you found the gold frames and mats? Is it a custom cut mat like you did for your hallway grid? I love the final look! Much better price point than the oversized version I spotted in an expensive consignment shop this weekend!
Love everything you do!
Here’s the info on the frames/mats:

How did you do the trellis work over teh door? I would like something like that!
My dad built it for me. I’ll try to put some instructions together when I see him again.
Love this post! I hope you will answer this question for me.., we are redoing two of our bathrooms. We will be putting in a pocket door to one. Could you tell me where you are getting your pocket door from or the brand? Thanks so much!
Hi Tiffany, I don’t even know. I didn’t pick it out. We just went through our contractor.
What size frame did you use for the prints and how did you cut them out of the book?
