A while back, I promised more simple decorating posts, so here you go. I moved some more furniture—and I thought you might want to see how adding a piece with “bulk” can make a big difference.
Now. . .
This is the corner of my office where we keep the printer, paper and kids’ art stuff. I like both looks but I think the black chest (my dad found it for $30 at a yard sale!) looks and functions better. And, I love being able to tuck the printer underneath.
This may not be a breakthrough design idea, but there’s nothing that thrills me more than figuring out how to use a piece I already own in a better way. It’s like solving a puzzle. These ideas usually hit me out of the blue and my husband, always thrilled by my brilliant ideas that almost always occur during a ballgame, gladly jumps up to start moving things around. (The same at your house, I’m sure.) My goal in sharing this is that you might think about pieces in your own home in a different way.
This has also become one of my favorite little corners at night. . .
By the way, I moved the gray console into our breakfast area in the kitchen. I’ve also had it in the powder room and as a console under our TV. It works everywhere. My favorite kind of piece!
PS—Voting has begun for the FrogTape Paintover Challenge. Help me win $5000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by casting your vote (once daily!). It also enters you for a chance to win a $1000 gift card. (You can see my porch reveal here, in case you missed it.)
.
Repurposing is the creative spirit at work! love the chest idea for your supplies (hidden but accessible) and the tip for adding bulk to a vignette. My husband and I often remark, after we’ve moved things around, “why didn’t we think of that sooner?”
Just voted for you and will continue to do so. good luck!
Thanks, Cheryl :)
Where is your post on the entire new kitchen reveal? I can’t find it through searching.
I haven’t posted it yet. Photos just taken last week…
What a find that chest was! Both looks are great but I like this one best. It really fills out the space and adds some history!
What color is on the walls. I’ve been trying to find the perfect dark blue/grey for my entryway and this looks like a winner.
It’s actually more black in person. It’s an OPI color called Nein Nein Nein Okay Fine, made by Clark + Kensington paint.
that chest is calling to me!! I ♥ black and gold! and please, please share pics of your home office- the entire space!! I remember you have a piano in there, and I recently relocated my office to my front room, and have no other space for my piano. I have a design plan in mind, and plan on starting fairly soon. I love your blog and aesthetic:) from a fellow southern designer (and twin mama)
You can see how the space is laid out in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeBh3gf9oFE&t=8s
beautiful♥ thanks for sharing!
I can tell that spot feels cozier just from your picture. Nice switcheroo.
Girl-please tell me that gorgeous plant is a fake!!!
I’ve always loved that little chest, I remember it from your first BHG feature!
I have a similar chest in our ‘family room’ . We hinged the bottom drawer front and put a shelf inside and now it hides away the children’s PlayStation . Maybe an idea for printers that aren’t too bulky ?
