Consider this a Friday brain dump before I take off for the long holiday weekend. . . I’ve had the worst sinus infection this week (hello Summer!) and my house looks surely looks like it. Then add on all of the end-of-year papers and art projects coming home and piling up in the kitchen. It’s like a May explosion!
They’re all special and precious and all of that, but I’m sneaking 98% 75% of it out to the garbage.
In upstairs bathroom renovation news, we have tile! I went pretty classic in all of my decisions because none of this is changing again for a very long time (or ever).
I’m almost certain they sent the wrong color for the flooring grout (lighter than I chose) but I like the clean look of this. . . if it will only stay that way! I learned my lesson about tile and light grout in a kitchen. Never again.
Breaking news: Nordstrom is having a half-yearly sale with up to 40% off. Just kidding about that breaking news part. I believe that was the topic of more than 3/4 of the blog posts in my feed yesterday. :) Seriously, if you wonder why everyone and their grandmother announces it, a lot of bloggers make a majority of their incomes from commission-based sales (aka affiliate links). And, while not everybody needs a new lamp or throw pillow every season, most people will buy a couple of new things for their closet so it’s definitely a better revenue source. So, if you’re planning to shop the sale and feel obliged to use my link, here it is. If not, we can still be friends.
Speaking of Nordstrom, I actually find a lot of great deals by shopping Nordstrom Rack online clearance. (For example, I got the top several of you asked about after I posted to Instagram for $7. Can’t beat that.) They’re having a “clear the rack” sale now where all clearance is an extra 25% off.
And, one more sale to tell you about (Memorial Day is full of them!). Baublebar, one of my very favorites, has a lot of pieces for up to 70% off. I’ve never ordered anything from them that I haven’t loved.
Just a few days left to vote in the FrogTape Paintover Challenge! You can (quickly) vote once a day per email address and each time enters you for a chance to win a $1000 gift card. FrogTape will donate $5000 to the winning blogger’s favorite charity. My porch and I are playing for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
And finally, I’ll be spending part of my weekend getting ready for a birthday party. These little bears are turning FIVE! Unbelievable, but what a blessing they’ve been to our family. And to think we didn’t know how we’d ever manage when we found out.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
.
Happy Weekend!! I have a question. . . how did you decide on the bigger hex tile v. smaller hex tile? I love it. I love that it is classic but still feels updated but am trying to decide on size. Will you do a post on how you decided on the scale of your tile? For instance, subway tile? How did you decide on that size v. the bigger size? Even when I think, “Oh I am going to make this simple and do hex tile and subway tile”. . .there are still so many decisions!
Anyway, thanks for all you do and have a great weekend!
I just went through tons of images on Pinterest and deferred back to my kitchen/bath designer friend for her opinion. We have hex in our master bath now, but I agree, the larger size upstairs looks more modern.
I just love posts like this! Have a great weekend!!
I laughed out loud at the Bug sprayer art… you have to keep that one! Have a great weekend!
He is always fascinated when our exterminator comes. :)
5??!! No way!! I feel so old!! I can’t believe I e been following your blog longer than that!! So crazy! Time sure does fly!!
Love posts like these as well. It’s real. Can you share where you bought the tile from? And the grout color? We’re looking to do the same hex in our bathroom but I’m worried the glossy tile will be too slippery?? Thanks in advance.
Happy Birthday to those adorable twins! I can’t believe they’re already 5 years old because it seems like yesterday when you posted your shocked expression announcing the news.
Love the bug sprayer art too!
About the grout color, it looks so fresh and clean. Seal it several times before it has a chance to collect dirt and stains. And now you can buy grout paint! It comes in many colors, and it actually works. My daughter used it to freshen the original floor in her bath renovation, and it is wonderful. You could do this in the future if needed to bring it back to the original.
Please let me know how you keep your light colored grout looking clean. Ours does not look good and I wish I had gone with black. I have tried several products, but nothing seems to work well. (It’s in a bathroom too).
Stanley steemer came and cleaned our tile and it was the best money ever spent!! He had a machine and the cost was not bad at all!! I couldn’t believe how much cleaner and brighter everything looked. I am in no way affiliated with them but wanted to share the recommendation :)
I always forget they clean grout. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll tuck this away for later :)
question — what lesson have you learned about light grout? i’d love to learn the easy way :)
I would just never intentionally put grout/tile in the kitchen period. I had a terrible time keeping mine clean.
