I think one of the most common decorating questions is what to do with the big wall behind your sofa. If your living room is set up this way, it usually leaves you with a pretty good expanse of space to fill. In a new video for Wayfair, I’m sharing some tips on how to approach this tricky spot. My personal preference is to go big, whether that means a single piece of art, a mirror or a gallery wall that floats from the ceiling to down behind the sofa.

Great post. However, I’d have to fight the urge to bring the large piece of artwork down a little on the first photo.
I also like the idea of using a long picture ledge ….one two.
Me, too!
That Southern Living room was so gorgeous in person!
I remember when you went. Lucky!
Such a fun and cheerful post Emily! The power of art! Thanks for sharing ❤

i watched the video and it recommends pulling the sofa away from the wall to place bookshelves behind. i have a large sectional and this is not an option (not even a few inches would work!)
What can i put behind a large sectional to give visual height in the room and that would not break the bank??
Curious about sofas in front of windows!
I love the look. . .
Great post Emily, couldn’t agree more with using artwork for the living room wall. Serves not only as a fill to an empty wall space but also as a featured piece within a living room which I think creates more intrigue.
