It’s a good day when one of your favorite designers updates his portfolio with a new project. The latest from Mark D. Sikes is another beautiful lesson in layering. Think you can’t use another stripe in your room because you already have one? Or, that all of your natural wood tones have to match exactly? Or, that you can’t layer different shades of the same color? He’ll make you rethink all of the things that might be hanging you up. . .

This is a gorgeous post! I don’t have blue and white in my house but I love pattern and stripe mixing so much. I got Mark’s book Beautiful for Christmas. I love it so much his style is absolutely timeless just like yours, Emily.
Blue & white always works. But I don’t have those colors in my home. Maybe you can do a post on using other color combos?

Stripes are always right!! And last year I painted my library black ~ walls, trim , bookcases, you name it and then used a ton of blue and white in there!! I agree~ blue and black is fabulous together! Great post.
Love it all. We just moved in December and our new color scheme is blues and whites with some black thrown in. I can’t wait to see it all come together. The kitchen door bath demo starts in a few weeks! Eek!

I use to only believe the color blue wasn’t for me other than liking blue eyes, blue ocean and blue sky. That has changed with reading Mark’s book, your blog and the blog Color Outside the Lines. I’m really getting into the blue and whites now. Also a black accent keeps it truly interesting.
Mark D. Sikes is an amazing designer and no one does stripes like he does. I am a true lover of black , white and blue all over and those are the colors I decorate my home in. I don’t think I have ever met a stripe I didn’t like so this whole post was eye candy to me. I have a pinterest board full of black, white and blue all over, I added several of the pics from your post there this morning!
