We all know that windows treatments can make a big difference in the look of a room. But, start adding in custom details like blackout liner or a longer-than-standard length, and curtains can also make a big difference in the room’s budget. That’s why I couldn’t be happier with the IKEA WERNA curtain panels I found for our master bedroom. For $40 a pair, I got 98” of emerald green beauty. (A higher hung curtain can instantly elevate your room’s style. I wrote more about that here.)
So that the artwork and desk area didn’t feel too crowded, I opted for one panel on the outside of each window. Since the bamboo shades we hung don’t block very much light, we’ve started pulling the curtains at night. What a huge difference! It’s so much darker in our room than when we were just closing the blinds that were there before. The IKEA curtains feel like true, blackout treatments that you find in a hotel room. (The rods are also from IKEA—my favorite source for inexpensive, quality window hardware.)
I also love the look and feel of this curtain. It’s a great weight—not too heavy and not too thin—and almost has a silky texture. The green color instantly sold me, but it also comes in a dark blue and dark red/burgundy.
A quick look at the original plan:

Love the emerald green curtains and animal print together!!!! Emily …..I am curious what you recommend for really wide windows, (three Windows in a row / no trim between them but with moldings and trim around the set of three.)
One really long curtain rod or two smaller ones on either side? (assuming they are decorative and do not need to close.)
Thx!
Thanks, Olivia.
Personally, I like a rod going all the way across the length of the window with panels on each side.
Hey Olivia,
I have the same dilemma in my home. A good dilemma to have though with large, bright windows! We had Hunter Douglas roller shades installed in all the windows throughout the home, and they look great. Modern & simple. But, I would like to add a few draperies to certain rooms to. I agree with Emily…just a long rod that continues over each of the three wickets does will look clean & continuous. I’m going to do this in our master bedroom;) Have fun!
Love the pop of green! I think I might need to head over and add a pair to my cart! Thanks for sharing :)
I’m a fan! Your room is looking so beautiful!
It’s your green and perfect. Are they lined?
Not lined but definitely weighty enough that you don’t need it–unless you need it white for looks.
Pretty! The green is the perfect addition in here!
Those curtains are amazing! There really is no better deal than Ikea for ready-made, quality panels. I love the nod to the green kitchen cabinets. You’ve been knocking it out of the park in your new house, Emily! Oh, also, I love the chinoiserie print over the desk. Is it vintage?
Thanks, Michele. I found the print at a consignment shop. It works so much better in this house than in the last.
I never thought to double stack curtains (like you did with the bamboo). I LOVE the way it looks. I see an Ikea trip in my very near future. ;)
Emily do you mind sharing where you got the pillow inserts for your rust velvet pillows. I love this bedroom so much. The pink walls are my favorite. Amazing that they are not too girly.
Thanks, Dianne. I used this down insert ($10).

I have the dark blue in my bedroom and my youngest son’s room. They are great at blocking out the light when I have a migraine or when little guy needs to sleep. And you can’t beat that price for nice long curtains!
Since I sew, I make my own window treatments. But I can’t beat the price IKEA offers. Dang!!
I love how you manage to incorporate the same colors throughout your home. Great flow!
That’s why I’ve given up on my dream of sewing. By the time you buy yardage, it’s impossible to beat the price…
Our windows require odd lengths that I cannot find ready made so I often buy curtains and remake them into the perfect length for my home. Sometimes buying them very long for not much more money can yield curtains for multiple windows if I am doing them to the sill. I also customize by adding trims. I did not realize the number of ill fitting window treatments until we starting looking at houses to downsize.
Hi Mary and Emily!!
Emily — is that Ballard’s Nala bench under your Parsons desk? If so, do you like it? Thinking of using in upcoming project.
I love Ikea’s window panels, too, and I sew *a little.* I used Ikea’s Aina linen drapes in my bedroom — cheaper to buy a pair of the Aina than to buy yardage!! Then I pleated them using pleating hooks and the already-applied pleating tape on the Aina and added a cotton ball trim. A designer once came to my home and — from the door at least — asked if they were custom. The fabric lays so nicely.
Not lined, but just like Emily says, they keep out light pretty darn well. You can go to Home Glow Design to see how they came out.
Thanks for great post, Emily!
Hi Amy–yes, that’s the Ballard bench. I love it! I’ve already used it in three different places around our house.
Love it! Where did you get your bamboo shades?
I love my shades, too. Here are the details:

Hi Emily, do your bedroom windows face the front of your house? I’d love to use these in our master but it faces the front so I think I’d need to replace all my blinds…any idea how these look facing out from the outside of the house?
They do. I’ll take a pic and post on the blog soon. I’ve had this question several times. We keep the curtains pulled back during the day so you only see a little of the bamboo shades.
I think they’re elegant and I love the length. I need that duvet cover too :)
Beautiful!
I’ve had those curtains in my cart already several times. They look so good in your bedroom
Your room is stunning! These curtains are just what I have been looking for! I am sad to see that they cannot be ordered online and it appears that none of the stores are carrying them. :(
They look so good in your bedroom Emily! I still love mine in my office too! Such a great drape for the price!
Where do you like to look for pillow covers?
Etsy is my favorite source–so many great sellers.
It’s all great but I was captivated by your bed – am thinking of going from a padded headboard to a 4 poster canopy like yours. Do you have a source for it? I have an old 4 poster mahogany rice bed I was thinking of painting/spraying. So when I saw your black one I am more convinced! Thanks…
Hi Lynda. We’ve had ours for a while and the manufacturer is Zocalo. (We ordered it through a local furniture store.) C&B also makes a very similar style: http://bit.ly/2bEcYU6
PS–Ours isn’t black; more of a really dark espresso.
Thank you so much – this C&B option is perfect! Just the direction I want to go.
I checked online and it says the Charlotte store doesn’t care those green curtains. :( I bet they had a run on them after your blog post!
That’s where I bought mine so maybe they’re just out of stock… (Hopefully!)
Hey Emily! Where is your duvet from?
Thanks,
Lindsey G
Hi, It’s from Wayfair:

Hi Emily,
Love the curtains! Since we have only 8ft ceilings I think that will really help make the room look bigger. Can I ask where you got your bed? We are looking for a canopy bed ourselves. Thanks!
Lauren
We’ve had it for a while but the manufacturer is Zocalo.
Where did the painting in between the windows come from? Thanks!
I found it at a consignment shop. (Vintage.)
