I’ve been thinking lately about this idea of buying timeless pieces for your home. There are so very many home accessory options out there now, it’s good to know where to put your money so that you’re not sick of your house (and your decisions) after a few years—or even a few months. What’s classic to me, of course, may not be the same for you. But, I’m happy to share my picks. (I started with round mirrors a couple of weeks ago.) I bet you won’t be shocked that a good blue and white lamp is also near the top of my list.
In case you’re not convinced that a blue and white lamp can work just about anywhere. . . (Even if you don’t have any other blue and white pieces in your home, I promise it’ll mix right in!)

ONE. TWO. THREE. FOUR. FIVE. SIX. SEVEN. EIGHT. NINE. TEN.
What else would you consider a “classic”?

Perfect timing; I’ve been looking! Thank you!
Blue and white… the magical combo. It truly does “go” anywhere!
If I come home with another lamp, I’m going to be in trouble. Ha!
I also think French Louis chairs are a classic item. And they can work with any decor style.
This was an interesting post for me. I don’t share your decorating style, but I read your blog (and several others) because the beauty of your style (and others) inspires. Simultaneously, it reaffirms that my style is not this one (or the other pretty blogs I read). I was skeptical that the blue and white lamp would work for a variety of styles, but it did! I’d love to be surprised like this again. And, keep doing your thing. I’ll keep coming back.
I consider blue and white a classic and a neutral. I have it sprinkled throughout my house…it fits in everywhere! My favorite piece is a blue and white lamp I found in a dusty corner of a vintage shop.
Those are the best kinds!
I guess that what is considered a classic decorating element is always subject to individual tastes, but it does seem that a few things fit whatever “classic” means to most of us. I love blue and white lamps and dishes, too. I think I would put wing chairs into the category of classic even if they have a more modern twist in the design. I have a few different versions and like them all.

I love the sweet little botanical prints. Where did you get them?
Lov you blog… always fresh and classical.
Thank you, Angela! They’re from a coffee table book:
