The last several weeks have been a little crazy for obvious reasons I’ve shared with you already, but also because I’ve been working on a new project for Wayfair that I can finally tell you about today. I’m doing a YouTube series on their channel called “Inspiration Insiders”, where I’ll be sharing a new project every week over the next couple of months.
I have learned (and am still learning) so much about video throughout this process. It’s been a totally different experience for this girl who mainly considers herself a writer. I think it’s a lot of fun, but there’s still that part of putting yourself (and your Southern accent) out there on camera that makes my stomach get in one big knot. Maybe it’s the voices of my kids, who seem to be my worst critics. “You look weird.” “You sound weird.” They are reassuring in every way. ;)
The biggest challenge in making these videos at home has been finding a clean spot and a quiet time and place to shoot them. Ideally, you want no background noise, and that’s virtually impossible around here.
This week’s video is an introduction of our family and my blog. My husband wanted to know why he didn’t get to be in the video, but he was at work. Maybe next time. . . If you have a minute, (I think) I’d love for you to watch, and clicking the little “thumbs up” under the video on Youtube would help me out. (Thanks!)
Emily, Your video turned out great! I have been reading your blog for years and although my style is a bit different than yours, I continue to read it(which is I think is a testament to your blog/writing). I think what I loved most about your video was hearing your voice! Whenever I read a post, I imagine what your voice would sound like and its nice to know now (which you have much less of a Southern accent than I thought you would, haha!) -Nicole
Funny :) It is weird how you can picture someone to sound/look when you know their writing, isn’t it? Glad you have continued to read!
Yaaaayy! Loved the video & gave it a thumbs up. I’m amazed that you can even make this happen with four kiddos in the house. I struggle with having only 2 and they are practically adults. :)
This was great! I don’t know you personally but I feel like I do after all the years of following. Hearing your voice is so neat! The video came off as genuine and that is what it is all about, right? Our styles are very different and I realize the reason I read is because you have very practical tips that regardless of style one can use. Also, I am color-phobic and watching your process is amazing. (The Saturday 6 article you referenced regarding the all-white debate really was fitting… ok I digress…) I am dying over your emerald kitchen. Loving it. Love how you are being true to yourself and not playing it safe. Keep doing you. That is why we read.
Thank you, Amber :)
Emily! You look beautiful and sound great! High five!
Thumbs up, Emily! Love the accent :) Looking forward to the next video! Also, I didn’t comment because we were out of town, but your “off the beam” post really spoke to me. I’ve been volunteering quite a bit at both boy’s schools and now that I’m trying to extricate myself from some of that, I’ve found that it’s sort of become my identity :( Reading your post helped me to realize that guilt is really unproductive. I’ve started a part-time decorating business and actually have a real, live breathing client and still I’ve been putting my own commitments last. Crazy, right? The anxiety over saying “no” really is the hardest part! I’ll be reading your post over and over when school starts again in September to help strengthen my resolve :) And P.S. I was in awe that you could keep up with two blogs and five kids…now the truth comes out ;)
You looked and sounded great. More importantly, you appeared to be REAL.
I am easily bored by perfect homes. You are real and I hope you keep it that way. I love the process even more than the results. I live in New England where homes are much smaller than they are in the South and redecorating is more of an evolution than a complete re-do. You have one of the nicest southern accents I have heard–easily understood by northerners.
Barbara, thanks so much for this.
This is great! Can’t wait! the kitchen suspense is almost killing me by the way…
You and me both! ;)
Hi Emily – I’ve been following you for a while – but don’t usually comment. Loved your video – so fun! And it is nice to hear your voice after reading your words for so long! Love your accent! Anyway, thanks also for sharing your pic of your beautifully disorganized living room!
It was a great video!! Looking forward to more! Been following your blog for a couple years now! Can’t wait to see what is next
Very professional video . It reflects you and your style so well. Looking forward to future “episodes”. What accent? I don’t hear an accent! I’m in Charlotte too.
You’re adorable, inspiring and talented! And I LOVE the accent! :) Good luck!
very warm and welcoming video! Looking forward to more!
very nice! not contrived!
It was neat to hear your voice. You didn’t sound like I expected. I didn’t notice an accent but I live in the Deep South so that’s probably why. Great job on the video and your babies are precious!
Hi Emily…I have followed your blog for years, cannot for the life of me remember how I found you though..LOL! Love all your tips and ideas for different rooms and love your new house with that gorgeous screened porch! Your video brought your pictures of you to life and you did a fantastic job of making it look so easy and natural….You sound so confident and professional at the same time! Love your very natural Southern accent…..I am a transplanted Yankee living in Atlanta GA for thirty seven years and I have heard all of them…!Best of Luck in all you do!
You are a ROCK STAR. Great job on the video. Loved seeing the family and I do hope Keith gets to make an appearance soon:) It was so good to see your new home. I look forward to the YouTube

Oh my goodness! How sweet do you sound!!?!!! I knew you lived in the south but what a cute accent (beats a Chicaaaaago accent any day!) Great video!
What a great video!!! You and your children are adorable & I love your southern accent!!! I, too, have been a blog reader for awhile. Although my decor is different from yours I appreciate your beautiful” colorful style. I believe your decor advice is applicable to all styles. I cannot wait to see your kitchen!!!
looking forward to following along!
Well done! Love your blog and your aesthetic. Looking forward to more fun videos!
I’m a Southern gal (Charleston born living in ATL) and I don’t think you have a “funny” accent…. the rest of the US has one, though ;)
Looking forward to the videos.
Loved the video and having an opportunity to see you and hear your real voice :) I enjoy reading your blog and being encouraged to stretch and grow with my house decorating….I have two boys that are 10yo and 8yo and I only imagine how frenetically wonderfully crazy noisy your home is with 5 kiddos! thanks for all that you do :)
Thank you, Cynthia :)
Oh, Emily…I know I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…you (and your southern accent) are just DARLING! Video is such a great medium for you! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and look forward to more! Off to find that little thumbs up. :)
Thank you, Autumn. You all are making me feel lots better about this than my kids did ;)
LOL! Well, you SHOULD. Aren’t kids great at being so not-so-refreshingly honest? On the homemade Mother’s Day card from my son, he wrote “P.S. Even though you can be a little grouchy sometimes.” HA!
Yes, they definitely keep us in check…
awww yayy!!! love it – you’re a natural!
Emily I’ve been reading your blog since the beginning and have loved following along. Your video was great and you and your family are adorable!
Thanks, Malissa! And, I’m glad you’ve stuck around for so long :)
Hi Emily, you probably don’t remember me, but I discovered you several years ago and you came to my Charlotte townhouse to help me plan a new layout using my existing furniture. This was pre twins and even before you moved into your second house. You were as cute as anyone could be and I loved our time together. I felt like we hit it off immediately, but have since realized that probably every one feels that way.
I am so happy for all your successes. You are so talented, but even better a really super person who comes through as genuine and real.
Totally remember you and see you pop up on my Pinterest feed every now and then. Hope you’re doing well, and I’m sure you’ve done 101 great things to your house since I’ve seen it last. Love your style :)
