When we were visiting my parents over Spring break, I found a federal eagle mirror in a thrift store that I *thought* might be great. It was just interesting enough to be something special. But, it was $50, so I left it there. Then, I kept thinking about it and sent my dad back the next week to get it. It was marked down to half price. Destiny, I tell you.
After I researched similar mirrors on One Kings Lane and eBay, I knew I’d found a gem. I haven’t found an exact duplicate but similar ones online are pretty pricey. Normally, I wouldn’t be so quick to paint a vintage mirror, but the finish wasn’t all that great to begin with—and it was so dark between the black bookcases. Plus, it’s easier to justify having a little fun with a $25 find, right?
I used Rich Navy by Glidden (in a matte finish). I hesitated several weeks before painting it because I just couldn’t come up with a color that felt right. If all else fails, layer in more blue. :)
It may not stay in this spot forever, but it works for now. (And, pulling those bookcases apart has helped to fill the wall behind the sofa a little better. . .) See the room a few months ago here.
WOW- what a find! i love that! and the blue is perfect.
You’re so lucky the mirror was still there. Not to mention the price cut.
And you can never go wrong painting something blue. It’s perfect for your home.
I think it looks great!!
I love it! Now that is a deal! And the blue is perfect! I found some bamboo mirrors that were originally $500 each, but missing the glass so were marked down to $150. I LOVED them. My husband didn’t think $300 for two mirrors without mirror was a “deal” so they had to go back :( This gives me hope that my destiny deal might still be around the corner!
I agree with Cassie! The new paint makes this mirror shine! What a great color for it. And I love that it works so well in between the bookcases. I bet that wall looks so different when you walk in now. I love changes like that!!
That’s a great find.
I think the blue is perfect! What a find!!!!
I LOVE this Emily. The navy was a great choice and it looks great between the two bookcases. I’m sure you did get a steal, what a perfect find!
What a great find. I need to spend more time in thrift stores! I like the blue color the best.
I LOVE it! Love the shape, and love the navy!
Love it!! And I was never a fan of blue….until I started reading your blog. I’ve been converted. :) Just gorgeous!
It’s the perfect spot, Emily…love the blue!
I really like the bookcases separated like that. Usually everything you do is my favorite! But the book cases put together looked so massive and dark in the overall lighter color scheme. Separating them seems to balance things out a bit and of course I love the mirror painted blue. Thank you for always being an inspiration and I look forward to your posts!
What a fab find! I love the color you chose too for it!
