If there was one thing I used on a regular basis while we were selling our last house, it was Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I was forever going behind my kids to clean up dirty fingerprints in the hallway—and especially around doorways. (Must they swing their way into every room?!!) And, now that the yellow gunk that inevitably comes along with a Carolina Spring has arrived, I’ve been using them to wipe down our porch.
It’s quick (just wet it to activate the micro-scrubbers), and absorbs so much better than using a roll of paper towels.
Jillian Harris (HGTV host and my favorite Bachelorette) is also a fan of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. She has teamed up with them to share her dirty little secrets when it comes to Spring cleaning.
I recently had the opportunity to do a Google hangout interview with her and a few other bloggers. I may or may not have asked how she planned to handle all of the beautiful white things in her house the first time her baby (due later this year) gets diarrhea on them. (Okay, I did ask. That’s me. Always cool.)
One tip I especially loved is that she uses a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to get all of the hair product buildup off of her curling and flat irons. Smart. And, two other things I learned: you can use them to get scuff marks off of shoes and to clean your entire oven, including the racks.
Jillian made this cute video, sharing more of her tips:

Thanks to Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for sponsoring this post.
I absolutely love this product. I cleaned my mom’s apartment yesterday using magic erasers. She has a walker that she runs into the baseboard and some times leaves marks on her walls as she has difficulty seeing and runs into things. Her baseboard and walls cleaned up beautifully using this product. Headed back to the store today to pick up more for her and me as well. I am going to try on my oven next. Thanks for this great post. Your kids are so cute sitting at the table. Happy week end to you.
I’ve heard the Eraser can change the finish on walls & painted woodwork. So I’ve never used it. But I would like to try it on my oven.
It’s not good on flat paint but it is fine on the more durable finishes.
Did you not find they took the finish off your paint? I used them down our long upstairs hallway (and on other walls) and in every instance, they changed the finish and now my walls look almost greasy. They’re clean, but they don’t look it. Hallway, etc. will have to be painted to correct – a prospect that’s a tad overwhelming to consider. I’ve heard the same from others. Curious about your experience.
I think it depends on the finish of your paint. For me, they were a lifesaver on the trim, which was painted in a glossy (maybe semi-gloss or satin?) finish. I don’t think I would use them on flat paint, which shows everything…
I’ve only used it once several years ago and I felt like it left a weird film behind? Does that not happen to you?
Re: Taking paint off walls–I somewhat suspect that that’s how they work to remove the scuffs? I used them when we moved to remove scuffs from white paint, and in the main areas (flat finish, I think) you could see where everything was, but it lessened when it dried. In the kitchen/bathroom with semi-gloss paint, it didn’t show, but semi-gloss is more forgiving.
I used them on a painted piece of furniture to clean it up, and it worked well. I didn’t notice any paint removal from that, and it was maybe a satin finish?
What was JH answer to the baby poop?! I was wondering the exact same thing ;)
Actually, she said they’re just going to roll with it and maybe replace things later :) She said she didn’t have a lot of really nice stuff, but her whole place looks beautiful to me!
I use them to clean my three bicycles. They take grease and gunk right off.
I am addicted to Magic Erasers. Sometimes, it just gets to be too much with all of the elbow-grease needed to clean up after 3 teenagers and all of their friends. Magic Erasers make life MUCH easier. I get them at Costco in bulk because I use them so much. They make me happeeee!
Best & Bisous,
Michelle from Simply Santa Barbara
Michelle–I can tell they make you totally happy. Love it :)
I think these things truly live it to their name and magically clean everything! I have used them on flat ceiling paint and the secret is to scrub very lightly because they will remove the top layer of paint. The only other problem I have ever had with using a magic eraser was in a black shower – it seems to leave a slight white residue – but nothing a second rinse didn’t take care of.
I used to have a cleaning business and the Magic Erasers came in handy. They work well on a hard to clean bathtub also, without the fumes.
Why have I never used them in the tub/shower??
They are PERFECT to get off soap scum in the tub that you didn’t even realize was there!
I love your blog, Emily. While I understand the need for sponsored posts, doing three in a row seems a bit heavy. I hope you can go back to normal posting soon.
Actually, Kate, I’m not totally sure why that would bother you or cause you to feel “heaviness.” You’re welcome to read or not. . .
PS–The Minted post wasn’t sponsored, but I don’t really feel it’s worth explaining.
I’m sorry you took offense to that. I do like your style and decorating. I just miss it. I know you are busy. It feels like I have read 3 ads in a row though. That’s all I’m trying to say. I see you that honest thoughts are not welcome here.
I wish I had stock in Magic Erasers because I use them so much! With three teenagers and a 160 pound Newfoundland, they are a necessity around the house. I am constantly wiping walls and trim (mostly dried drool – yuk!) I just rub lightly on the walls with no marks left behind. Using them for soap scum on glass shower doors is a life-saver and they do a beautiful job cleaning the inside of the refrigerator.
Good reminder–our fridge is on my to-do list next…
They work awesome on PVC trim, vinyl siding and gutters. I used them on all our doors and window trim. they take off scuff marks, pencil marks, mildew etc. I use them on inside trim also but my house has oil base paint so they don’t affect the finish.
Love magic erasers! I may have slightly “bumped” the side of our garage with my car. It left a lot of scuff marks! Before my hubs got home I quickly buffed them out with a magic eraser! Completely rescued me!! Lol
I used to use the magic eraser too as it works a treat. Then I found out it contains formaldehyde-melamine-sodium bisulfate copolymer and as I have two children I’ve decided to use something that won’t leave a possible harmful residue. Just because something doesn’t have fumes doesn’t mean it’s less harmful.
Bleh! Thank you for the heads up! I have mostly used washable microfiber cloths for years but do have some of those here so now I will think twice before using them where the grandchildren may be.
Having lived on a heavily wooded property with a screen porch for 22 years, I finally stopped fighting the pollen battle out there. I wait until the pollen is over and then take the pressure washer in there and clean it all up for the summer. I was cleaning up the pollen every day and sometimes twice and it was just not worth it.
One of my best kept secrets, use Magic eraser to remove self tanner mistakes on your skin! Seriously, works wonders, much needed in the warm months ahead!!
