My 5 Favorite Home Accessories

February 2, 2016

In the past, I’ve shared my most asked-about accessories and my go-to decorating pieces, but narrowing it down to just five is a fun challenge. Today, I’m “guest hosting” a favorite things series with four of my blogger friends: Jennifer from Dimples & Tangles, Kris from Driven by Decor, Lisa from Shine Your Light, and Pam from Simple Details. We’re all sharing our top five favorite accessories. Here’s my (current) list:

favorite_accessories

statement_mirrorgold bamboo mirror

No matter what your style, a good statement mirror is a decorating staple, in my book.

blue_white_jars blue and white ginger jar

It’s no secret I’m a big blue and white fan, and I’ve found that these pieces work in almost any room and with lots of other patterns. Don’t over think it. Blue and white is a classic.

white_lamps white and gold lamps

When it comes to lamps, I almost always buy a pair. It’s hard to go wrong with a classic set in white that can be moved from room to room. And, when in doubt, don’t skimp on size. I usually shop for lamps that are around 26” or taller.

orchid potted faux orchid

I love orchids but have just resolved to treat them as a fresh bouquet and enjoy until I kill them. (It works for me!)

abstract framed abstract art

I’ve come to love how a piece of abstract art can give a little edge to a space—and possibly some color. An abstract works great as a standalone piece or mixed in with other art in a gallery wall.

I have yet to see a room decorated with a blue and white jars that I don’t love! Great idea to always buy lamps in pairs. I kill orchids as well…in fact almost all plants!

If I could snap my fingers and have every one of these accessories appear in my house I would be a happy girl. I’ve been dying to DIY a piece of abstract art and I love that tip you shared about taping the edges of a poster board to give it a more polished look. Thank you so much Emily for joining us for this series! This was the perfect topic for you – your styling is always amazing!

Great list of favorites – yes to all of these! And I’m with you on the orchid killing – I just can’t keep those suckers alive no matter how hard I try. Thanks so much for guest hosting with us this month Emily!

I could have won a million $, that’s how much I would have bet blue and white would show up on your list! :) I always love seeing how you style yours! And, I think I need a pair of white lamps to shake it up at my house. Thanks so much for joining us Emily, it was fun having you!

Love all your top 5s. Get this I was at Walgreens yesterday picking up school supplies and they had blue and white ginger jars a set of 3 of them (they were smaller) for $9.99 and they were by Bombay. I think they must of been a special they were running for Christmas because they we originally $20.00. Shhhh…don’t tell anyone buy I scooped them up for our guest room for on top of my secretary!

Agreed 100%! My husband has a magic touch with orchids, but they really love to be in a southeastern window with filtered light. They’ve been coming back for years. I went to a tour of homes last weekend where EVERY house had orchids, and it made me want an orchid in our north facing living room. Enter….Costco! Right now, they have “faux” orchids that look super real. So now I’ve got an orchid in the living room and I can’t kill it!

I love lamps so much that it pains me to buy two of the same kind but I do for bedside tables and entry tables. The rest I just have fun with and use symmetry throughout the rooms in other ways. Mirrors I love as well and “the hunt” for one that dances and is affordable is just a happy.

Agree with all as usual, except I really prefer more “chunky” flowers with weight like peonies and tulips. Orchids are too delicate and fragile looking for my personal taste.
My home has slowly evolved into more navy, white, black and gold with lots of bamboo, tan leopard print and persian rugs thrown in! Very inspired by you! In fact I bought THE best lamp at Homegoods last week and thought Emily Clark would totally love this! Oversized, with a white wood bamboo base and navy linen shade.

Sounds pretty! Wish I would have had the same lamp luck when I was at HomeGoods yesterday :)

Oh Emily, you are so gifted in this area!! I agree with everything, and especially agree with the “edge” that abstract art brings to a space. I never thought about it in that way, but completely agree with it. Thanks for the post as I’ve always felt challenged by the accessorizing part of a design.

Totally agree with you! And the mix of these elements work pretty much as well! I love blue and white jars too… my husband can’t see me coming back from shopping with another one:-) but they look so pretty! :-)
