Adding Color To The Kitchen + An Update

January 22, 2016

Thank you all so much for your great advice regarding our upcoming kitchen renovation. You gave me lots to think about! We decided to work with a kitchen designer, and I’m so excited to see the plan that she’s putting together for us. I feel much better about the whole thing, knowing I have someone who specializes in kitchens leading me through the process. One exciting development: the kitchen sink may be moving in front of the windows. I had never considered this possibility before, and it makes me giddy! :)

So, maybe your kitchen doesn’t need a major renovation but could still benefit from a little pick-me-up. Sometimes, just some minor tweaking can give you a new perspective (especially if you feel like you’re in there all day long). In my latest article for Better Homes & Gardens, I’m sharing five unexpected ways to add small punches of color to your kitchen. (No major paint jobs required!) Most of these ideas are projects you could easily knock out in a day or over the weekend.

Hope you have a warm weekend. We’re drowning in an (almost) inch of snow. :)

I read a lot of the comments you received about renovating your kitchen. It was kind of overwhelming! So many things to consider. It would be enough for me to reconsider doing the renovation in the first place.

It was a lot, but I think the overall consensus was drawers and then more drawers! (And, plenty of outlets!) That’s why I hired help :)

I’m excited to follow along with this! We are considering a house that would require a major kitchen (and bathroom and laundry) overhaul as well. Very overwhelming but exciting at the same time!

So smart to use a kitchen designer. There’s no way that I would ever think of all of the details I would need to! And if you’re possibly moving the sink, whoa… this is going to be good! (And I loved your BHG post… your second tip totally validates my current project!) ;)

Not having a window over the kitchen sink just might be a deal breaker for me in a house.

Glad you are thinking of putting the sink in front of a window. I am pasionate about this. In the kitchens I have designed I always put the sink there and I would never buy a house where I could not do this. I feel like I am always by the sink, and who doesn’t like looking out the window especially if you have kids playing outside! Looking forward to seeing the whole process and finished product! You have great taste so I know it will be beautiful.
