One thing I can say about our family is that we get the good out of our furniture. The sofa we’re using now is one I bought two houses (and three babies) ago for a steal off of Craigslist. (I also put my husband in a sticky situation when I sent him to pick it up, and he still reminds me about that. . . ) It’s been a good couch—especially for the price—but it’s definitely starting to show the wear and tear it has endured.

I know sofa shopping is in our not-so-distant future and have been looking around online to get some ideas of what styles I like. It seems I’m drawn to a classic, like the “Rose” sofa from Interior Define:
In case you’re not familiar with Interior Define, they specialize in sofas and sectionals, most of which are totally customizable (including size, configuration, material, cushion fill, and legs). Their price points are also around 30-40% less than comparable retailers since they cut out retail markups. Such a great resource for designers (or anyone else!) who want affordable, customizable upholstery for their projects.
Here are a few of the fabric options available. (Most pieces are available in 40-60 different fabrics—and swatches are complimentary.)
I’m always drawn to the more neutral fabrics for upholstery that I know I’ll have around for a while. These were my three favorites:
What do you think? (Fun to play and scheme about ditching the tan couch!)
Lots more style options on their site. You can see my top picks here.
By the way, they have a flagship Chicago showroom, if you happen to be in the area.
And, now, a couple of things for you. . .
Interior Define is offering $100 off of any order over $1000, now through 10/31/15.
Just use code EC100 at checkout.
They’re also giving one of my readers a $1000 to their site!
