Moving into a new house can often feel like 101 small projects going on all at the same time, with little to no actual progress. And, definitely not enough to blog about. :) So, I thought I’d show you what I’ve been working on, including those projects that are still half-done.
I put some pumpkins on a table and called it Fall decorating.
I leaned some framed art on the mantel.
I painted the twins’ room the same color as their last one.
And, bought them a room full of furniture from Craigslist for next to nothing.
I found this $20 silk runner at a garage sale.
I painted these bookcases for the third time. (Black this time around.)
I decided that I’ll love my botanicals in any house.
Some pretty art arrived from ShopTen25
.
I swapped out a bedside table for a desk.
And, I’m waiting for the electrician to come hang this pretty light.
All of this and yet, the house still looks like a bomb went off. . .

You’ve accomplished a lot! Too funny on the “fall decorating”…I am still unpacking from our renovation and I only put out a few fall things as well. Why bother now with Christmas around the corner! I really need to pay more attention to Craigslist…there seems to be so many great deals out there!

LOVE the peeks! Totally understand…so much work and so little progress with moving and updating a house. Looks awesome, though!
I know you probably feel like you have a long way to go, but I think it looks incredible! Yay you! if it makes you feel any better, instead of our usual pumpkin patch extravaganza, I bought our pumpkins at costco without the kids for $6.99. #sometimesgoodisgoodenough
Well, consider yourself lucky. Our pumpkin “patch” experience was a rip. So expensive and they don’t even grow the pumpkins there–just toss them out in a field :)
Emily – you look so moved in! I’m impressed! I need to know the Craigslist story and also you need to do a post about the new (are they or am I dreaming?) pillows in your living room and your bedroom. Love them!
I did, but I’ll forgive you for missing that one ;)

Love the updates, Emily! So pretty! :) I especially love this post because this is how we all decorate “in real life” – a stop at Target, a run to Home Goods, a quick find on Craigslist, etc. It’s such a myth that decorating happens at once and poof! you’re done and everything is picture & Pinterest perfect. Ha! I’ve been in my house 2 years and I’m not even close to “done” :)
I don’t spy any unopened moving boxes so that’s a good thing ;) Love all your little updates. It’s looking like home.
I just didn’t take pictures of them! The front room is stacked full of “stuff” I don’t know what to do with… Yikes!
Well you already have the Saturday 6, perhaps a new series is in the making… 101 Little Things. I think everyone can relate to that! I think your house looks great and thank you for explaining your decisions (soft instead of stark for paint color). It helps.
You are making great progress!! Love the black shelves!!
Emily,
I love your whole style! I loved your gallery wall from your last house — the one around the TV. I am wondering where you collected all of that art? Craigslist and thrift stores? I am working on a collection of my own similar to that to use in my new home. Any suggestions would be great! PS – I love the wallpaper too!
Thank you, Tracy :) Yes, it was just a collection from multiple sources–flea markets, I made a couple, and some were from Etsy:

Love the “new” black bookcases! Also, where are the blue pillows on the couch from? I have a similar color scheme in my living room.
Thanks and thanks for keeping it real!

Everything looks great! I remember when you were desk shopping….where is the white desk from? Does it chip at all?
That was for a different room. This is the parsons desk from Overstock that I’ve had for years.
It already looks lovely! I love the living the art diplay othe mantel!
We also just moved into our new house over a month ago, but it’s in no way as done as yours! I hear ya about all the half-dones and undones… I know it’s all getting there! Love your easy style as always!
Beautiful!!! I think those little projects can be the most satisfying –maybe because I don’t have zillions to spend on renovations… :)
Silk runner for $20. So beautiful. I need to hit some rummage sales! Your home is looking gorgeous.
wbere are you hanging that light? I’m looking for something for our dining room but can’t find anything bright enough.
Lol we’ve done the same fall decorating (but I don’t have the excuse of having just moved in). Seriously though, with 5 kids, I’m impressed you have already done what you have done! Enjoy the progress!
Loving all the updates! I need more :)
fun to seek little peeks of your new house! I feel like it takes a good 2-3 years to really settle in! But, you’ve made some very happy progress.
I plan to copy your powder room botanical art…do you remember exactly which frames you used? I have 3 kid free days and this is first on my list!
