The Neutral Side of Fall Decorating (Using Metallics)

September 28, 2015

Decorating for Fall might make you think you need to deck out your home with reds, oranges and yellows. But, if you’re more into neutrals, it doesn’t always work. Adding a few metallic accessories can warm up your space just as well—and are so trendy right now. Plus, copper, gold and brass are easy to layer (yes, you can mix them!) and will last way beyond Fall.

To give you some tangible examples, I pulled a few metallic accessories from Target’s site because 1.) they’re affordable and 2.) they just seem to consistently be on trend. If you just want to add a little sparkle here and there, here are some fun options:

PS—I listed regular prices, but a lot of these items are on sale now.

PPS—I think that Nate Berkus ottoman is my new favorite find. . .

As always Emily Clark, your posts never disappoint! I get tired of just seeing ‘orange pumpkin type’ decorating this time of year. It’s a nice idea to glam it up with metallics.

I’m so into the neutral fall color palette too (and love those copper lanterns!)! I just finished a series of autumn themed paintings, and my favorite is one that features leaves in warm tans and grays. I love the bright colors of fall but the neutral trend is so beautiful too.

Hey Emily! Do you know where to get the copper looking pendant lights in photo?

Thanks, Emily. Is the ball task lamp available again? The link goes to a page that says it isn’t. I’ve been waiting for them to bring it back!

Well, sorry about that! I thought it was still available when I put the post together over the weekend, but maybe I was wrong… It was so popular. Hopefully, they’ll bring it back for round 2!

I hate spending money on seasonal decorating. I love the idea of metallics as a good option. I have a very tight color palette in my home. Black, brown, beige, grey and cream. Metallics would add an awesome layer that I had not considered. thank you!

I love this look – I also love just adding out-doorsie nature kind of stuff for fall! Feathers and antlers goes with the brassy stuff – so cozy!

As always, your posts never disappoint!! The GOLD IKAT SHOWER CURTAIN example, can you give me any suggestions on a rug I could use (white cabinets)?

Thanks, Jenny :) I think almost anything could work. Maybe just something fresh and white… Or one of the colorful turkish rugs (like the one I used in my kitchen) could be really fun…
