Expect lots of talk about how to decorate a small entryway. Because I now have one—and I’m itching to start working on it. This photo from the new One Kings Lane studio is a perfect example of how to pack a lot of style into one very tiny spot.
I love the mix of textures and old with new. I shopped OKL to see if I could recreate a similar look:
seascape painting // framed sailing photograph // wood lamp // fiddle leaf fig tree
antique table // navy garden stool // sailing book // navy pillow // basket
For more inspiring spaces, see the rest of the OKL Studio here. It’s beautiful!

I love that inspiration photo…especially the wood lamp.
Love this idea and the inspiring photos. I looked on their site describing their new Studio and enjoyed it a lot. Though after checking on the price of that beautiful Tiger pillow, I was taken aback. It is on sale for $769, down from the original price of $1400! I’ve never seen a pillow that much—–a great price for a chair perhaps, but a pillow?! Whew, nice but beyond my budget.
Whaaat?! I missed that pillow, but it’s just as well :)
Emily, I am so excited to watch and see your new house unfold. I am moving in a few weeks from a more open transitional home to a 1980s colonial so can’t wait to piggyback off of your ideas. :) I too feel that the lower ceilings and character is going to make it such a cozy home. My new entry is TINY too.
Our entry way is teeny tiny too! The front door opens right into the living room, basically, so I’ve tried to create a separate entryway space by floating a couch to the left when you walk in so it’s a bit more divided. It’s definitely a challenge! I do have a cute little tall chest of drawers (an antique post office box) + lamp + mirror (oh, and stacked books too!) combination next to the door – I think I need to add some greenery next!
Loved this post. It is so apropos for first home buyers and apartment dwellers. Small does not mean you have to sacrifice style!
Emily our new home has a 5X7ft entry so I know all about small. I am doing some post on the lighting I am thinking about using and here is a post I did on possible plans for the entry hall if you are interested…….http://goodlifeofdesign.blogspot.com/2015/07/possibilities-for-my-new-homes-entry_8.html
I too have a “cozy” entry! I’m still looking for a great table for the entry that has storage to keep dog leashes, keys, etc in it. We have a table but it doesn’t have a drawer and it’s the bane of my existence! I’m not sure if your family is like mine but all their shoes end up decorating the front entry as well but if so plan on that. Good luck with all your projects! Looking forward to seeing your journey!
I’m convinced you can find anything you need at One Kings Lane, honestly! An entryway is IMPORTANT! Sets the whole tone of the home!
I have a small entry, too. Mine, though is weird in that it’s a physical room, but it opens into the living room and the hallway, and is just a bit wider than the front door, so there is no room for a table. I’d love one though! I’d love to have a little table with flowers and little doodads on it! :-)
That large armoire is my undoing. I have an armoire problem!
i love this inspiration picture so much! I’m pretty much a sucker for any room that has blue/white/wood. great breakdown.
Beautiful ideas. You do not know a small entry until you have a split entrance (bi-level) though! ;) I’d trade with anyone!
