I didn’t think I was much of a small-patterned wallpaper kind of girl—until I saw this room in Lonny designed by Summer Thornton.
So, what’s the trick to making a smaller pattern look less busy and dated and more chic and modern? Here are my thoughts:
By the way, this whole apartment is pretty amazing. I think I pinned just about every image.
This room is definitely one of my all-time favorites! Great tips for how to make it work. :)
I’ve always loved small pattern wallpaper. As long as the scales are right with everything else in the room, it’s amazing!
I don’t know why I’m hesitant to wallpaper, but this is a very pretty option. Maybe I dread the removal process? I would really need to think of a good space for it in my house if I ever go that route. Love your analysis on the room!
For some reason, I just cannot get myself on the wallpaper train even though I know that it’s chugging along and leaving the station with everyone and their mother on it! Maybe because I am a child of the 90’s and I have horrible flashbacks of helping my mother hang wallpaper and then 10 years later stripping all of it back off the walls? I don’t know…
The room is pretty though and I do get the appeal of the wallpaper. I especially like the mixing of the patterns.
After stripping a couple of bathrooms, I totally get it. It’s a commitment, for sure. I do think there are lots of good “removable” options now, though. I’m curious as to how easy they actually are to remove…
I think it’s also that the color palate isn’t too feminine (sure, there’s that lovely coral-red, but it’s grounded in a lot of white and green), and the design is sharp and clean (almost botanical) rather than fussy and floral.
I love wall paper. You don’t have to sell me on that! Very interesting room. I would like to know if you can give me the source for the bird prints. I adore them. Always enjoy your simple and fresh ideas.
Love those bird prints–but I don’t have a source. Not sure if Lonny list sources or not…
Interesting. I would have written that print off as 80’s throw-back if I saw it in a book. Really pretty in the pictures!
My first thought, too!
Your rooms are much prettier. All this pattern makes me dizzy. I have removed so much wallpaper from my house over the years I’m rather gun shy about ever putting it up again.
We bought our house 21 years ago and we are still taking down wall paper that covered almost every wall in this house. We are hiring out the work for the last two rooms because we just cannot do it anymore. Never ever again and I will not buy another house with one square foot or wallpaper!
You nailed it all right on the head Emily! I would probably try that someday!
