Summer Mantel With Pineapple Plants

June 9, 2015

This is the very easiest way you can give your mantel a Summer update. Buy a pineapple, or two, or three. Stick the tops in some water—preferably in some pretty little containers:

Instant Summer! Right? I think the tips of mine are turning a little brown because they’re under an air vent. Nevertheless—they’re fairly easy to replace.

By the way, my little collection of milk glass seems to have found a permanent home on our mantel. Even if your mantel is pretty shallow, you can still group together several smaller pieces for impact.

My dad taught me this trick that you probably already know. . . Just put the top of the pineapple in water, wait for it to root and then plant it in soil. It’ll grow a beautiful, tropical plant:

Can you tell I’m still trying to convince you that pineapples are trending?

OK….this is what I love about you…..that a little brown on the pineapple head is no worries:) I love those large blue jars….saw one at HG’s yesterday and almost got it but I didn’t feel like driving around to 10 other HG’s to look for another!

I live in S Florida and we have pineapple ‘tops’ all over the garden. We just cut off the tops and nestle them down into the soil and they grow. Pineapples are in the bromeliad family. Be aware that it takes 18 months for a pineapple to grow and mature.

How neat! Not holding my breath for an actual pineapple but I’d be happy if I got a pretty plant out of it :)

Well where have I been? I had no idea! That is the coolest thing ever. I can’t wait to make some pineapple plants. Your dad is a genius. And I adore your mantle. Have wanted some ginger jars, but like Sherry, I can never find two of the same ones {symmetry girl over here!}.

Those jars came from Joss & Main not too long ago.

My dad will appreciate the genius remark. You better believe he reads every comment.

I am definitely trying that with the pineapple! I agree, I would just be happy with a beautiful plant. Love the mantel idea with the small white vases. I’ve been trying to give my mantel a more summery vibe.

I had no idea about doing this with pineapples and then being able to plant them! You can find me in my grocery store’s produce section tonight…
