I guess it goes without saying that I love Pinterest. At first, I tried to only pin things I could actually do in my own house. Then, it kind of changed into pinning images that might illustrate something I was talking about on the blog. And these days, I just pin any image that feels like my style (which is kind of all over the place). Because you never know. . .
The tricky thing about Pinterest, though, is that you’re always looking for the next best thing. I’m always pinning more and new ideas so that I rarely ever go back and look through what I’ve pinned. Do you? So, while I’m away at camp with the kids this week, I’m featuring some of my favorite—yet forgotten—pins and a short description of why I thought they were worth saving. Enjoy!

There’s not much that I don’t love here. The pop of unexpected color, a big sisal rug, the striped stair runner, a blue and white ginger jar. . . I’ll take it all. Also a reminder that an entryway is a great place to experiment with a fun statement light.
Proof that the smallest spot in your house may be the best place for the biggest pattern. It definitely looks like a girl lives here but the horse prints are a nice masculine touch. And, those little antlers make a happy hat hook.

Probably not the foyer most people have, but I love the symmetry here. Two lanterns, two chests, French doors. . . This also reminds me how much I like big plants in baskets.

I love a small space with big furniture and accessories. Something about this just says cozy. How many people would think of putting a sectional in this spot?
This image might have solidified my love for navy bookcases—which I’ve yet to have. Paired with a colorful rug, I think they’re just about perfect.

Mismatched sofas and lots of different furniture styles make for a perfect combination. And, I love how much texture that one little bamboo chair brings into the room.

This living room reminds me of one of those movie houses. Lots of stuff going on without being too much. Almost a completely neutral palette but it feels really warm.

I was drawn to the pattern mix on the chairs, the natural textures of the rug and table. And, well, I’m just a sucker for a big green branch :)
I am thinking of painting my small foyer and its built-in cabinet a dark blue. The cabinet is functional but not attractive so hoping it will just blend in with the walls. Large window in the foyer so hoping it will not look too dark.
I also love the philodendron (selloum) in the bottom image. I bring them in all winter long. One leaf will last for weeks (I change the water every 4 or 5 days to keep it fresh) and it seems to ground the room.
Hi Emily The 5th photo is by Meredith Heron. I absolutely love those built-ins! I know you are a fellow navy lover…check out Meredith’s site for lots of navy inspiration. I have been rethinking my Pinterest boards lately too. I was too narrow in my pinning before, now I just pin what inspires me instead of the “one day I will do that” pins…so discouraging and depressing.
What a fun idea for a post! I loved hearing your take on these spaces.
I have a few pins that always stick out in my mind along with some old issues of decor magazines that will always be my favorites. I really enjoyed reading what you like about the foyers and living rooms. A great little collections of spaces. :) Have fun at camp!! Sounds like a fun week.
What a great post! Lots to look at here and the addition of your comments make it a study in decorating. Love that you did this!
Emily,
What I love so much about these posts is that you open my eyes to the space. So many times I will pin a room and have no idea why I love it so much. It is even hard to write a comment because I have no idea why I love the space! I usually end up writing WOW or LOVE IT but how many times can you say that?
It is fun to look at your posts and try to figure out what you love. Usually what you love was something I didn’t even notice because when the whole picture is beautiful it gets overwhelming!
Thank you for pointing out small details. All of the sudden these beautiful rooms are so full of doable ideas for the everyday person.
That’s exactly why I wanted to do these posts. Love to hear that!
I agree with K. Tweed completely…continue post like this i love seeing your pin point of view. Have a great weekend.
I am new to your site and love your style! I’m assuming the home tour is of your previous home and girlllll it was gorgeous! I think it’s funny you mentioned on one of the pictures in this post reminds you of a movie house. One of my favorite movie houses is Meryl Streep’s character’s house in It’s Complicated. Oh my god that house is amazing and one of the reasons I love watching it over and over. I always notice a new feature that I love.
On another note, I pinned a pin of a dresser painted in Hale Navy or something similar to that a few weeks ago. Low and behold I see that exact picture in your home tour so I guess it’s a picture of your dresser. it was kind of cool to stumble upon a random pin I liked at the actual source.
Glad you found your way here :) And, It’s Complicated is one of the best houses ever!
