The Boys’ Bedroom: Bedding Mix And The Best Throw Blankets

April 27, 2015

After months of mismatched comforters, I just finished putting together the bedding in the boys’ bedroom.

I really pieced this room together bit by bit, but the framed flag wall (inspired by the World Cup and my 10-year-old’s love of soccer) ended up guiding the rest of the room. In fact, Karrie from Happy Habitat contacted me about working together and helped me come up with the perfect pattern for the beds, based on the flags.

A quick PSA about these throws. . . I really chose them because I thought it would add a fun pop of color and pattern to the end of the beds. But, the weight of these is just perfect for an extra blanket. They’re not too light and not too heavy—and super soft. (There’s nothing worse than a scratchy throw!) I plan to order another one in a different pattern for our den.

I also added the initial pillows from Happy Habitat to each of the beds; an easy way to personalize a shared room. And, in case you were wondering, the upholstered beds are from here, the ikat pillows are in this fabric, and the striped duvet is from IKEA.

You may remember I added a bright dose of color by spray painting this dresser yellow. The flags pretty much gave me every color option imaginable. (I recycled this striped rug from another spot.)

And, to break up this long, narrow room, I painted the little window nook (aka “the office”) this deep navy:

Those are nice throws. I see throws all the time that are not machine washable. Wow. That is so NOT my life!

I saw the site and thought I was in heaven! Then I saw the prices and knew I was in reality. :(

Sarah–I really think the quality is worth it. In my experience, I’ve parted with several $40-$50 throws because they didn’t last…Thanks for checking out Karrie’s site, though :)

I have the Kenichi original in navy, cerulean/turquoise, paprika on the back of our sectional. You see it when you enter from the front door. Absolutely a gorgeous throw and an art piece. Definitely worth the price.

Fun boys bedroom! Unique and bubbles with personality.

This looks awesome! I love how it is so YOU (with the gold mirror and wall lamps) but also so uniquely made for your boys. What a great room to grow up in.

I bought the striped IKEA duvet and have had a miserable time trying to get my comforter to stay smooth in it. How did you attach yours? I used safety pins (inside out) at the bottom but it is all lumpy.

Barbara–I attached mine the same way. Maybe it’s the comforter inside?

Such a great boy room! I have sons too, and this room looks so boyish and isn’t too theme-y.

Now, will you please share your tips for finding Federal-style mirrors? I’ve been wanting one for ages, and you’ve got a few. :) Are yours antique/vintage?

I’ve lucked out and found one at a thrift store and another at a flea market. I think too many people know what they’re looking for on Ebay and Etsy now. I’ve never found great deals on them online…
