I thought I’d share a little update on one of the many projects I have going on around here these days. I’m trying to do a little sprucing up in the twins’ bedroom. Nothing major—just enough to make it a little happier for the time being. This room will most likely be changing again when/if we split them up and put both boys’ upstairs together. For now, the twins are pretty tight and wouldn’t think of going to sleep without the other one.
So,here’s my plan for a very low-budget “makeover”:
The stenciled clover wall is gone, and the whole room is this green from Benjamin Moore’s Williamsburg collection. I think it’s just about the perfect shade of green. I used two coats of their Regal Select paint and didn’t even have to prime before I covered the stencils. It’s good stuff. I pulled lamps and the IKEA bookshelf from other rooms and ordered the storage bins from Walmart that I blogged about here.
We recovered these headboards and pushed the twin beds together since they seemed to end up in the same bed, anyway. (I used this fabric.) You probably recognize the pillows from other places in our house. This was definitely an experiment in gathering from other rooms.
I’m testing this mirror out for size. It was a $1 yard sale find, and I think I’ll spray it navy. I’m also planning to take my own advice and frame some pages from this animal book.
The rug is this really soft chenille jute one that used to be in the girls’ bedroom. The boot is mine. . .
A one dollar yard sale mirror?! How does that even happen? I need to get better at sale-ing. ;)
I’m doing a quick & cheap makeover of my boys’ room and they asked for their beds to be pushed together. Works for me!
The key was stopping by right before they closed up shop. They were getting ready to load up their truck to take everything else to Goodwill and were just giving stuff away! :)
The headboard look just darling, Emily. Perfect with the paint color.
My favorite pic is the last one with your little guy wearing your boot. :) So cute!
Emily – you are amazing! I love what you can just “pull-together.”
awwww, the clover stencil wall is how i first found you! sad to know it’s gone, but very excited to see what you cook up next.
my twins (now 6 years old) recently went into separate rooms. one finally had had enough sharing and he moved into the guest room. most mornings we still find them back together, but they do love having their own rooms (or at least the idea of it!).
How have you secured / will you secure the mirror to the wall? I have a nearly identical one leaning on a table in my hall and I’m not sure the best way to ensure it doesnt come crashing down. I’d love to know what you’ve done!
I just propped it for the picture, but I’m going to hang it with double wire and a hook for a heavier weight. And, cross my fingers they don’t climb on top of the bookcase. (They haven’t yet…)
You have *such* a wonderful eye – the room is gorgeous!
I also have the chenille jute rug from PBK. I love it, but I can not seem to get dirt off the outer ribbon. Have you had to spot clean and had any luck?
Also a mom of twins 6 year old g/g). We let them have their own rooms at 2.5 and they love having their own space.
I have twin girls that are 7 and I never though of pushing their beds together. Brilliant! They always seem to end up in one bed in the morning. Thanks for the tip.
My boys are 18 months apart and always wind up together in my oldest’s full size bed. I love where you are going with their room. I vote navy for the mirror too!

The lamps and bookcase look lovely against the background of that paint colour! The last picture is adorable x
You have a great eye on pulling things together…and the twins.. weren’t they just born!!!
It seems like it! Not babies anymore :(
So cute!! That’s great that your twins are so close. I have 4 year old boy/girl twins. I am always saying they are the only set that really don’t like each other. Never have. No twin bond here…. Lol
Really LOVE the idea of painting that mirror navy. Can’t wait to see the finished space.
I know you have had them for a while, but do you remember what the name of the fabric on the orange pillows? I was actually just scouring your blog looking where you posted about them! I LOVE that fabric!
It’s Duralee’s Hingham Plaid :)
darling wall color and i love the twin beds pushed together! also…glass lamps in their bedroom…you’re so brave! my kids seem to have a talent for breaking lamps so everything in their rooms are metal and indestructible.
