Do you all watch that show The Middle? If you don’t—and especially if you’re a mom—you should. I know you probably expect way more from me because of all of the pretty pictures you see on this blog, but I’m living an almost-parallel life to Frankie Heck, the mom on the show. It’s scary-funny.
She’s frazzled, has good intentions and most days, is just surviving. I get her.
Yesterday was a particularly “Frankie Heck kind of day” for me. I had the fun experience of working with Lowe’s for the last couple of days (more on that later) and rushed back yesterday afternoon to prepare for a 6-year-old birthday celebration. As soon as I got everybody settled with snacks and headed to wrap presents, I heard a thud that resulted in a deep gash (dang end table!), a night in the ER, and no birthday festivities. While he was getting stitched up, the roads in Charlotte were getting covered with snow, which made for an interesting commute home. . .
Anyway, just a day in the life! Thankful that we got home safely and for good friends that scrambled to make a six-year-old feel special on her special day. (They even texted us a picture of her blowing out candles on a leftover birthday cake. I didn’t know whether I should laugh or cry. . . ) We ended the day opening presents in our bed and blowing out a pillar candle right before midnight. #WeTried
I just wanted to check in today. We are kind of “snowed in”, I guess. So, I’ll be back tomorrow with a fun giveaway.
Bless your sweet, pretty heart! (And, bless your little one!) I feel you. I’ve been having myself a Frankie Heck week, as well. Here’s to the good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful…here’s to life! I know you’re thankful for it all, as am I. (And, I’m thankful for all the ways you inspire me to make my life and home more beautiful!) :)
Thanks, Susan :) We’re all doing better today.
How badly though do you want to finish removing the wallpaper in her dining room?!? I’m glad your little guy is okay and that there were good friends to help your six year old celebrate. That’s what life is all about–just making the best with what we have. Long live all of us Frankie Hecks. :)
Funny you should mention the wallpaper. My dad thinks I should do a post on the Hecks’ house. :)
Oh no! we don’t have that show in England, but I certainly identify with the description! I thought it was only me that these things happened to while everyone else glides along in a state of gracefulness. It is reassuring to know that I am not alone. This sounds like one of those family stories that will be repeated year after year on the birthday- memories! At least we have plenty of them. Take care xx
Never a dull moment in the Clark household! Glad your little guy is ok!
i love that show! God Bless your little one.
Glad today was a better day. Love that you keep it real. Your house is so beautiful. It’s nice to know your life is otherwise “normal”.
And to Lisa, who commented above, The Middle is on Comedy Central, Tuesdays at 9pm in UK. As Emily said, it is a must-watch for mums!
It never fails that you’ll have a week like that and it will always come at the worst time… but I guess there isn’t a good time for a week like that. Glad your little guys is alright. Just creating memories!!!
Oh no. So sorry about your sweetie . My grandkids are always bumping their heads on my tables to. I’m thinking round next time! So happy you got to celebrate a little bit with your daughter. So sweet. I’m sure she understood. Better days ahead.
Awww….that kind of timing is the worst and yet y’all still got to celebrate with him. So glad he’s doing well anyway! Love your sharing of your real life. Our grands (our son and d-i-l have five boys and one girl) and, like you implied, it’s just part of life it seems. It sure hurts to see those little ones get hurt, though.
Oh crumbcake. Serisously?! I’m so sorry. I am sure you all handled it in stride but nothing worse than those ER visits. We have a couple of those stories. . .ours are always once they are in pajamas and two minutes from bed! Wishing you a much smoother end to your week, friend. xo
I am so glad your son is ok! !Is it terrible that children look so darn cute in hospital gowns?!? I have seen my boys in them way too many times though and they are still young. I think it’s awesome that you still made your daughter’s birthday specialI can’t wait to hear more about your Lowe’s event. I wish I could go! We are “snowed in” in Raleigh too with about 6 inches on the ground.
I am in bed reading this post at 11:30 at night. I just had to chuckle. My kids are grown but oh how I remember those nights!!! You do your best but sometimes it just doesn’t go as planned. I’ll bet that your 6 yr old will remember this birthday with fond memories! I love reading about your family! They are all so just darn cute!!!
The Middle is one of my all-time favorite shows … I love it! Grayson often says, “Are they SPYING on us to write this show?!” We feel like it’s our life! Glad you guys are all relatively okay. Thankful for the Lord’s protection. :-)
Yes–I’ve said the same thing!
That’s motherhood for you, nothing ever goes as planned.
The whole family loves “The Middle” at our house. Some of the episodes like her washing the dishes with the garden hose when the sink caves in remind me of our family in the midst of some crazy DIYs.
I love when she showered with the kitchen sprayer.
Aww, bless your heart. The best part is that you get up and try every day. Neither of those little love nuggets will remember the events of that crazy day–just the sum of the little moments and effort you put in every day. You’re a good mom. :)
Thanks, I hope so :)
I can sympathize, I’ve had a similar week. Glad everyone is OK and hopefully there weren’t too many stitches. Cheers to a better week ahead!! Enjoy the snow day!
Here’s to a better weekend for both of us!
Oh boy! I love (not really) how when we’re totally overwhelmed and trying to carry a bunch of things stacked on our backs, God throws a wrench at it. :) It’s usually what I need to calm down a bit and remember that I’m not in control. Glad everyone’s ok and hope you get some good rest this weekend, mama!
You have to print the picture with the leftover bday cake. What a memory to keep around. Have a great weekend, glad everyone is ok.
P.S. Listen to your Dad and do a post on the Heck’s house!
Thank’s for sharing that. Made me laugh … in a good way :) I’ve had a rough couple of weeks – snowed inn and sick baby, so i can totally relate. Your not just beautiful pictures … your a mom just like me!
Oh goodness, I think of Frankie Heck often!! That show is the best….and probably more real than any other family sitcom on tv–at least for us!
So glad to read your blog and see that you have a real life too. :) Sounds like you have some great friends, and I’m so glad your little one is okay! We have not had an ER trip YET, but I’m praying that when we do it will be something that isn’t too scary!
P.S. My favorite is when she poured milk and cereal in a mixing bowl and had everyone eat from it. :) And YES, please blog about the Heck house! I spend half of the time looking at their “decor” haha!
