I have a small—but exciting (for me, anyway!)—organization project to share with you. It completely drives me crazy that we actually have a house with storage and don’t always take advantage of it. Exhibit 1: our hall closet. (There is no natural light in this hallway so please excuse the grainy pictures.) We have another closet that holds extra coats, hats, mittens, the vacuum cleaner, etc., but this one had kind of become the “catch all.”
What was it catching exactly? Well, I’ll tell you. Enough tutus to outfit an entire ballet troupe, three beach bags, a very fluffy princess dress, miscellaneous jackets, dresses, sparkly mustaches (?), tissue paper. . . You get the idea. Not the best use of the space, to say the least.
I’ve always wanted an organized little gift closet, fully stocked with wrapping paper, gift bags, presents for kid parties and hostess/last-minute birthday gifts. I started by pulling every single thing out, including the plastic shelf/rod that was already there and used this shelving from Way Basics to take better advantage of the lower storage space in the closet:
Way Basics is an easy way to add storage. I used two of these and one of these in our 36” wide closet. All of their shelving is made from sustainable recycled paper (and is completely water resistant.) And the best part is that there are NO TOOLS required for assembly. (Happy day!)
It took me less than half an hour to get all of the shelving in place. I added a few crates I bought at flea markets, and the galvanized bins are the ones I blogged about here.
Now that it’s all organized, I actually have way more space than I thought I did in this little closet. I still need to stock up on little gifts, but this is where everything is for now:
Thanks to Way Basics for supplying the shelving for this project.
