It’s that time again when we all try to win the HGTV Dream Home (and never do). I could’ve cared less about some of the locations in the past, but this year, it’s in Cape Cod, and it’s a beauty. Since a lot of what makes the dream house so dreamy is in the architecture itself, it’s kind of hard to look at it sometimes and then take away any “real life” inspiration for our own houses. So, I decided to dissect some of the details in the photos on HGTV.com to show you some of my favorite decorating and styling ideas that may inspire your own spaces.
Besides the decorative touches, I also found the perfect inspiration for our outdoor shower that I’m still dreaming about:

Thanks so much for this post. I have a tendency to quickly look at the pictures. After reading this post, I think I need to spend more time checking out the design features for ideas to use in my home. Oh, by the way, I love your blog.

What a great post Emily! I really love this house and you helped me zero in on some of the specific details that make it special. And I’ve been wanting to go with a similar neutral color scheme, but with the popularity of gray the last few years, thought maybe it would look too dated. This lovely home proves that some looks are timeless!
I love those candles in the jar things. They certainly set off a light bulb in my head
Loved reading your “dissections” of the details! It’s such a beautiful home this year!
These are awesome decorating tips! Thanks so much! I love that the seating doesn’t match!
I love this post, because I think it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly makes great design great. I’d love to see more posts like this, where you dissect the elements of the room and why they work so well. Thanks for your lovely blog!
