You all know how I love adding bits of blue and white throughout our house. I’m always on the lookout for new pieces to add to my collection when I go to thrift stores. The problem is, I’m accumulating mostly shorter, “squatty” jars and vases, but nothing very substantial.

I’m hoping to use a small collection as a year-round centerpiece on our dining table and really needed a bigger piece to anchor the grouping. So, I splurged earlier today on a taller porcelain jar from Joss & Main. It’s 18 inches tall and was on sale for $64. Not bad for something I know I’ll keep out for years to come, but a little more than this el cheapo pays when thrifting. . .
If you’re in the same boat and need one or two larger pieces, here are a few other options currently listed in their Asian Studies sale. Most are 18” to 24” tall:
PS—If you don’t shop Joss & Main on a regular basis, you may not know about their referral program. You can get $15 in credit for every person you refer after they make their first purchase. It can quickly add up! (Not sponsored, just a friendly PSA…)
I just saw some larger blue + whites vases (think 24″) at Home Goods in the $40 range. I love that store! (and I love your blog!)
Yes–another great source! Hit or miss but I have occasionally seen some bigger pieces there.
I’m really kicking myself right now for not grabbing the two I saw at Ross for $15 each before Christmas!
That’s a beauty! Keep your eye out at Ross, too. They’ve had great blue and white pieces for about the past year if you catch it at the right time!
Beautiful! I love how you use blue & white. One of my favorite thrifty sources is the Asian grocery store which seems to always have a “90% off sale” `on pottery – I picked up a 24″ piece at Lotte for $9.
Also, Pearl River Mart has great options! I’m dying to go to their NYC store!!!
I have really been loving blue and white ceramics lately (and I guess everyone else has too!). I’m dying to get my hands on a lamp like this.
Emily, I have read your blog for years and have admired your style and creativity. I am just starting to attempt a blog of my own. I would love for you to check it out if you have some time.

Would you paint the exterior of a house shoji white?
I don’t have a lot of experience picking exterior colors, but I would think so.
