Design Planning: Dark Green Walls

November 7, 2014

Remember this space?

kids-book-nook

In reality, it hasn’t looked anything like this for months. The whole book nook idea has been replaced with two twin beds and nothing else. But, I’m finally ready to do something with the twins’ bedroom and cover up the clover wall. It’s making me dizzy. :) Really, I just need a fresh start to get excited about their room—and paint is cheap.

I don’t have all of the details worked out, but have settled on dark green walls. I’ve been thinking about this color somewhere in our house for a while now, and it seems like a great fit for a boy/girl shared space.

I also like that green walls leave you with some fun options for playing around with other colors. I found this image (via Elements of Style) that shows how easy it is to throw in other colors with shades of dark green:

Here’s an itty bitty start to my design for their room:

Raleigh-green

I’ve settled on Raleigh Green (Benjamin Moore). Have any of you used this color?

I have been toying with painting my office green for a while now- and I love that hue. Now that I work from home and spend so much time in there I’m going for it!

Love the tribute to the old wall in the very clover-esque fabric. No doubt it will turn out brilliantly.

I know! I must have a thing for that pattern. Didn’t realize how much it looked like the current wall until I pinned the fabric sample up in the room :)

Ahh, you’re a girl after my own heart! Love the navy and coral combo with that green. This will be fun to see what you come up with. Enjoy your weekend, Emily!

Hi- love the dark green color choice! Have you seen Bailey McCarthy’s kitchen? It rocks the green- it’s worth checking out if you haven’t seen it. I really like the fabric you have chosen! It will be great. I have enjoyed your blog for a long time, don’t think I have ever left a comment!

We painted my husband’s office “True Green” by BM, and I have a lot of bright white, navy and gold in for accents. It turned out so great! We considered “Raleigh Green” but my husband was looking for a closer match to Notre Dame green. Oh, boys…

Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

Green is for sure my go to color, well that and black, but green is great because in my opinion its a neutral and can be used with lots of different colors, I think its a great choice for a boy/girl space!

    LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

I’m expecting a baby in early April, and I’ve been looking at non-babyish/non-nurseryish colors of navy blue with greens, whites, creams, gold. I’ve only been thinking of navy walls to this point, but now I’m totally intrigued by green.

Hi Emily! I just painted my master bedroom wall 2 weeks ago a beautiful green (I believe it was called Pine Scent by Behr… It leans a little more to the kelly green side but has enough warmth in it to feel rich and warm. I’m loving it so far!! :) Can’t wait to see your room all complete!

I painted my library Sherwin Williams Raleigh Tavern Green many years ago. It is the perfect shade, looks similar to your BM Raleigh Green.

Have you ever done a post sharing the start-to-finish process you go through to redo a bedroom? I’ve just started a redo for my 14 y-o son. I bought a tan comforter and 2 pcs from Ikea for storage. I have some colors and fabric in mind, but not sure where to go next.
I love, love what you are thinking about so far. :-)

Going against the flow here–we had a very similar color on the bottom half of our master bedroom for years and I hated it. The master is always last to get painted around here so I lived with it for years and I am SO glad it is finally gone! Working with greens frustrates me because they can be so hard to match because of the undertone colors. Just my two cents.

Do you know the color name for the green with brown and gray undertones that is paired with the coral color?
