Lately, I’m really liking the idea of just wallpapering a smaller portion of the upper wall. It gives you an opportunity to use a bold pattern without overwhelming the room—or your pocketbook.
Do you like the idea, but don’t want to invest the time or money into a wall treatment below the paper? A similar look can be achieved by installing wood railing 3/4 the way up the wall (or higher) and painting it and the entire wall below it in the same glossy finish.
This reminds me of the wallpaper borders from 20 years ago. Let’s not go there……
Ugh, really?? :) I see this treatment as much wider than the 80’s border. I already have that in my bathroom….
Oh my – you just SAVED me! I’ve been looking for a unique treatment for my office without having to stencil or wall paper the entire thing. I’m definitely going to give this a try!
Stencil would work perfectly for this, too! (And, perhaps save your mind in the process. Ha!)
The small amount of wallpaper looks beautiful! I love the bold colors and the nice graphic prints!
LOVE this idea!! The only issue I’ve had is finding a small amount of wallpaper (since I don’t want to pay for two rolls).
Super pretty inspiration photos, though! And I love that wallpaper in the shortcut! :)
Oh, I love that!
I think this is a beautiful idea!
I am loving that wood treatment in the bathroom!
Having stripped off a lot of wallpaper in my day, I would only do this if I could use the kind that peels off easily. Love the look!
Me, too, Katherine! I’ve been seeing some pretty removable options lately, though.
I love wallpaper and I especially love this idea of placing it up above the molding. I only liked picture # 1, however. Thanks for brightening so many days with your simple and unique ideas.
PS Liked the “short cut” idea, as well.
I love this idea – especially when you have a small amount of wallpaper that you love. I think the wider size makes it much more deliberate than the older borders. Makes me want to find some wallpaper!
A question for you on a similar note. Our guest shower tile is old but in decent shape so I don’t want to (and can’t afford to) replace it right now. It also doesn’t go up to the ceiling so I thought I would buy some glass tile in a different color (the current tile is a textured white) and use that to tile up to the ceiling with maybe a pencil liner tile in between. I have looked for others who have done the same thing and I think I only found 1 picture. Does this sound stupid to anyone? It would be a similarly-sized stripe to your picture #1. TIA
Love this! I think I need to pay better attention, because I haven’t seen this trend yet. Thanks for introducing me! All of the examples are fabulous, but I especially love the first pic! Drooling over that mid century piece!
Oh I disagree with the 80’s comment. I’m putting this in my projects all over the country! Love it, especially the first image. Have a great weekend, Emily!

This is such a great idea!
I’m using that S&L wallpaper in a client’s entry. Love it.
Would love to see it!
