I’ve been thinking of starting a series of posts like this for a while. My very favorite ideas, after all, are the ones I see and can put to use in my own home without spending a lot (or any) money—and maybe even without leaving the house. They are just easy, creative ideas that make me look at objects or rooms in ways I’ve never thought of before. I hope you’re inspired to get up—like now—and make a quick change in your home. Enjoy!
I’m planning on posting more “totally easy decorating ideas” on a regular basis around here. If you have one you’d like me to consider, feel free to leave a comment or send me an email. :) I’ve also started a Pinterest board for these.
Thank you for this post. I can use all these ideas…TODAY!
Love the small mirror above the artwork. It’s like the cherry on top! Good post, thanks.
Love this! Sometimes the huge decorating projects are just too much with busy life, but I adore discovering new ways to make my home feel decorated and simple tasks are the best. Please keep these posts coming!
I love this series! I’m always looking for easy and affordable tips! :)
If those are dishwasher pods, it’s dangerous to leave out with kids in the house. They look like little candies in a bowl! My friend’s toddler mistakenly ate one and had to be rushed to the hospital. She was admitted for a couple days due to the toxicity of those ingredients. Please be careful!
Yes! But in our house the seem to be safer out of reach on back of countertop than under the sink. I have had one kid try to eat one before :(
I like the little mirror idea. I will be on the lookout for a few now! Thanks!
awesome – love these ideas!!
I’ve done #3 a lot but not #1 & #2, I should try those! thanks Emily!
I love this. Thanks, Emily!
Agreed. Easy is BEST! I placed a small plant, my hand soap and the dish detergent on a small brass tray beside the sink. After all, everything looks better on a brass tray. : )
Great ideas Emily!
Yes, I knew you loved brass :)
Um, having books in the same container that holds a plant that needs water is not a good idea. The books will get splashed and soon be stinking of mildew.
It works well with my orchid, which only needs a few ice cubes :)
Yes, please do this series! I love these tips and they’re gentle reminders that all you need is a little ingenuity and creativity to bring beauty and function into your home.
Emily – I love your blog and always enjoy your decorating suggestions. One thing – I know you have small children and those brightly colored dishwasher packets can look almost like candy. Automatic dishwashing soap can be fatal if swallow or cause blindness if it gets in eyes. Please be aware and keep it out of reach of your sweet kiddos. I personally know a family whose small son bit into one of those packets – the mother reacted immediately rinsing his mouth and calling poison control, and then rushed him to the emergency room. By they time they arrived his esophagus was severely damaged. He has gone through years of reconstructive surgery. I don’t want to be one of those “terrible story” people, but if it saves one child it’s worth it.
Yes–totally agree. See comment above :)
Great idea! I’m always looking for ideas like this too. Especially if I can do them without having to leave the house :)
Well, I know what I am doing with some of my old books. They look great inside that planter! Thanks for the easy tips!
