There’s nothing like the trusty camera roll on your iPhone to remind you how life is going. I think it can actually tell you a lot about your priorities.
You may have noticed that Summer blogging has been a little lighter than usual. There is simply no such thing as “the lazy days of Summer” when you have kids. I’m not one who thinks you have to keep them entertained 24/7 (that’s what four siblings are for!), but it still seems I spend most of my days getting them to one place or another, even when we’re technically taking the Summer off.
I sometimes feel guilty when my phone is filled with more images of my house than my kids, but I’ve noticed that my camera roll has been filled with fun pictures of our life over the past couple of months and that makes me happy. And, even though I often feel panicked at how far behind I’m falling with work-related stuff, I can breathe easier when I think that my kids have had a happy break from school.
Do you think your phone’s camera roll can tell your when your priorities are out of line?
PS—Can I confess that I’m looking forward to getting back into the routine of school and regular blogging? Minus the 6am wake-up and making ham sandwiches for lunches in the morning. . .
Yes, my hope for “lazy summer days quickly turned into “crazy” summer days. But like you said, I’m happy if my kids are happy. Have a wonderful rest of summer! xx
I am right there with you. All blogging and DIY has been put on the back burner this summer. But the memories we made will last a lifetime. I can’t believe how big your twins looks! Adorable.
That’s an interesting perspective, Emily. I think I have more pictures of work, then kids next. I like to think it’s because they were at camp during the day, but their times at home have been just as fun, especially with our new addition :)
Sweet pictures, Emily and yes, I think your camera roll speaks volumes! Thankfully mine has been filled with pictures of my kids and family too! I can confess too that I am ready for the routine of school again minus the making of lunches…that’s my LEAST favorite part of back to school. I don’t mind the early wake up because I have a strange love of the early morning hours. I’m not a blogger…yet, but it’s on my list. I’m a little terrified and don’t know quite where to start, but I think that after all these years of reading blogs, that I might give it a shot. I hope I don’t chicken out. :)
Good luck starting your blog. Nothing to be scared of–just lots of fun (and work)!
It took me about a year before I actually started my own blog, just because I wasn’t sure if I could follow though with it. But I’m glad I did – it’s been a lot of fun! Good luck! xx
I never dreamed I’d be this committed to it for five years. But, it becomes addicting after a while. . .
I’m so glad you continue sharing your gift with us. We learn so much from you. Thank you Emily :)
Lots of cute pictures! I agree that lazy summer days are a myth with kids. I love your confession. I just wrote on my blog this morning about the wonderful joy I feel on the first day of school. It’s great to have had summer, but I look forward to fall routines!
Your kids are absolutely adorable. I love the pictures. You’ve all had a great summer indeed. I am not looking forward to regular routines…and my daughter going to all day pre-k. I feel like she was just born. :) At least I have my twins and work to keep my mind off that. :)
These pictures are all so cute. The children are adorable.
Thanks, Marty!
I agree about feeling guilty when there are more pics of my home than children but I know when I spend time with my kids, I get so absorbed in what we’re doing I don’t always want to break the moment to reach for the camera (I don’t have a smartphone so picture taking is a little more inconvenient). Haha, totally agree with the last bit. I was making my ham sandwiches last night…
I know! I feed mine way too much ham during the school year :)
Even though I am a preschool teacher, and LOVE MY JOB, I live for summers at home with my own kids….and got back into blogging regularly this summer. So I will completely miss being HOME but actually excited to get back to a routine (and a paycheck!). I still hope to continue blogging regularly….I made it a goal this summer to focus on growing the blog, and am proud of what I’ve accomplished. (Wish I could add my website/blog name in the prompted box when I leave a comment, but my comments never show up if I do….weird)!~Kim
Totally off subject, but I love your new hairdo, Emily! :)
Thanks :) I think I’m going to keep it short for a while.
Such a good point! My camera is definitely filled with a mix of kids and home inspiration. I don’t enjoy making my husband’s lunch and avoid it any chance I can, and the thought of making more than one is exhausting. Why does something that takes 5 minutes cause so much dread? :)
My camera roll says I love travel, quirky details, and family-that-dislikes-being-photographed (except for our cooperative dog) so I’ll agree with you. Looks like you’ve been having a great summer.
