I’m seeing all kinds of Fall and even Christmas(!) images pop up on Pinterest these days, but I’m still savoring the last of Summer.
Since it doesn’t look like we’re going to make it back to the beach this season, the kids and I did the next best thing and played with our shells instead. (That’s a sad consolation prize, huh?)
We love collecting them on vacation and always bring home a ton, but do nothing with them. So, this year, the kids painted them and made me (heavy!) necklaces, while I grabbed the hot glue gun and created a simple souvenir to hang in our powder room.
(I found the shadow box frame at Marshall’s for $7.)
Please tell me you haven’t pulled out any pumpkins or lighted snowmen yet. . .
I actually really like the necklace- it reminds me of that Twig and Twine line!
Ha! Maybe I’ll put them to work :)
No fall or Christmas here. In my area (TN) we will be warm quite a bit longer – so I don’t even start feeling like fall until well into October. I’m usually able to wear sandals that long too LOL!!! (I am so dreading my feet all covered up and long pants!!)
This is a great way to “keep” summer Emily! I’m doing something similar with SAND to keep our beach memories alive too!
I’m still holding onto summer here in Indy too! It’s sorta hard to think of fall and winter when the humidity is 100%! We spend alot of time on Lake Michigan and there are no shells but rocks and we have always collected them, I have rocks all over the house, I love the idea of framing them! Great post!
We picked up a load of sea glass whilst on holiday in Barbados and I’ve been wondering what to do with it since we got back. Now I know, thanks for the great hint!
Love the shadowbox. So pretty on the black matte!
Emily, You’re so creative! Love your shell art and necklaces. Happy Labor Day!

I just bought supplies today to frame our shark’s teeth. I love fall
but will go into it kicking and screaming! Your framed shells look wonderful!
I still have shells and sand out, at least til we aren’t hitting 100 degrees!
No pumpkins and even thoughts of Fall here…I wasted the summer away packing for our big move next week…I am hoping the summer weather here in Ontario lasts until October – then maybe I will get to enjoy some of it!! Great project – I have quite a few shells we collected on trips to Florida…you given me some great inspiration!
Framing your shells is such a cute idea! I will have to remember that for when my son gets a little older.
Love your post today! I live in Florida, and it’s definitely NOT fall here yet! I also love seashells and crafting with them, shadowboxes are a fabulous way to display Gods beautiful artwork! Beach Blessings to you and your family!

Love this idea! We’re going to the beach soon and I’m sure my little treasure hunters will want to bring home lots of shells. What a nice way to remember a family vacation.
We live by the beach and my oldest just started collecting sea shells. I think I need to come up with some way to display them, too. And no, no snowmen here. I’m still on summer mode!
Hi Emily! What a great way to use seashells, so pretty! We went to Cape San Blas recently and I’m definitely not ready to let go of summer either :)
No Pumpkins or light up snowmen here. Usually I wait until its after my birthday in October that I start with the pumpkin decor. I don’t like to forget Thanksgiving because I have A LOT to be thankful for, then I move into Christmas and let that linger well into the next year. CONNIE
Art that is homemade,, and meaningful, is the BEST art of all. I adore your shell shadow box and I think I will be making something very similar.
The worst part of working at a crafts store was seeing every season and holiday arrive months in advance. I swear it is Christmas 50% of the time at Michael’s!
I love all of your shell crafts, but most especially the shadow box. Beautiful and sentimental–what more could you ask for from home decor?
I really love shells and this is such a great idea to keep them, that shadow box is gorgeous.
