If you’re not already familiar with his work, let me introduce you to Ricardo Solis. He lives in Guadalajara, Mexico, with his wife and four children. Somehow, I knew he had young kids before I ever read his bio. (You know what I mean if you’ve seen his paintings.) 
I admire his imagination as much as his artistic ability. The animal art is my favorite. Look closely. Each painting tells a wonderful story:

I get so excited anytime a blogger introduces an artist that’s new to me! These pieces are SO fun! I thought the zebra was my favorite until I scrolled down and saw the hippo…they’re my favorite zoo animal. It’s a tough call but I would have to say redbird is the fav. with dressing zebra in a close second. Red bird is my fav. b/c I have a 2 year old and whenever that Nabi commercial comes on my husband I have “good morning redbird” stuck in our head for the rest of the day.

I love the Dressing the Zebra but hubby would adore the giraffe.
Creation of the Giraffe speaks to me. Father’s Day, my 2 year old grandson discovered that if he colored in the cut-outs on the card he was “signing” for his dad, he’d get a creation of his own! And so the love of stencils has begun! I think he’d get a bang out of Creation of the Giraffe because I think he believes he’s invented stenciling!

Growing up, I always had a fondness for box turtles. I would always make my parents stop if we saw one trying to cross the road. I would quickly get out and help him across. I still do this today some 50+ years later! Plus, I am an EC teacher and work with students who struggle learning to read, so “Quiet Reading” with the box turtle would be perfect! I kept coming back to Dressing the Zebra. The simplicity of black and white has always shown me the crispness of the art. You get to see every detail, nook and cranny of what is portrayed to you in the simplest form. Every-time I look at this white horse who is about to become a Zebra, I see the joy of creation.
I love so many of them, but I think Creation of the Hummingbird is my favorite.
Oh what beautiful art! I think I have to agree with you – dressing the zebra is amazing. I also love the giraffe and the hummingbird and the flamingo (“color war”!).

I do love Dripping Flamingo but Creation of the Dove and Creation of the Hummingbird are also lovely. I’d have a hard time deciding!

The flamingo is my fave!!! I have a small, and of course completely NOT tacky, collection of those long-legged, pink birds and this would be and awesome, more grown up, addition to the flock.
