Our New (Green) Front Door

May 15, 2014

green front door

I’m excited to finally show you our new front door. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t like the old one until we had this one installed. (I guess a cracked wood door can be a blessing in disguise, after all.)

After looking at lots of different greens, I finally decided on Amazon Jungle and ordered this brass door knocker:

Amazon Jungle green paint

I also added some new black planters with Kimberly Anne ferns (easy to keep alive!) and some red geraniums for color.

See the before and after pictures and read all about my process of selecting, ordering and installing the door over on The Home Depot Apron blog today.

Thanks to The Home Depot for providing me with a gift card for this project.

Love the green against the brick! Perfection! I am sure you went through a lot of colors before you decided on this one. Green is so hard to pick!

Love it! I love doors that keep privacy but let in light. Unsolicited fern advice: my grandpa split his giant Kimberly Queen and gave me half. A year later, I had to split my half in half. :) Then the new halves got sunburnt and looked so ratty. At the end of winter this year, I cut them down to the roots and they’ve growing back all awesome and fresh!

Thanks for the tip. Mine usually dry out and I ditch them by the end of summer/early Fall :(

Ooh la la! I like it. Love the brass knocker with the green. Looks great! I really like the style of the door too with the windows on top to let in additional light. Well done!

What color is the inside of your front door painted.? I need to paint our front door but wasn’t sure what color to paint the inside of it. I am in the process of painting the rest of the interior doors a dark gray. Thanks.

I painted it Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze. It’s the same charcoal gray that’s in our foyer stripes.

Love it! I love brass hardware, but thought it might be too traditional. Tell me how you decided on hardware.

To me, brass is classic–and our house is pretty traditional so I think it works.

My favorite color is green so I tried several times to paint my front door green and they were all hideous mistakes, so I was disgusted and painted it black (you know those old Vogue “what not to wear” pics where they put a black mark over the person’s eyes to hide their shame – that’s my front door). My brick is slightly pink like yours, so I’ve been patiently waiting for you to tell me what shade of green to use so I could just copy it disaster-free. Thanks Emily!! Now, I get to tell my husband I’m painting the front door again. That’s like poking a bear with a stick, and makes me grin inside. (Not that I would actually poke an actual bear, but you know what I mean if you’ve been married more than 10 years.)

Love the green you picked, which works incredibly well with your surrounding shrubs as well as the brick. Like the new style door much better than the oval glass, which I had and replaced on my Victorian home as it was a little over the top. Curious if you bought the door slab or pre-hung?

I love your front door makeover. The door is exactly what I have been looking forward. How can I find the door at Home Depot? (The name of the door or item #, etc?) Thank you so much, in advance, for the info. My house desperately needs curb appeal updating this summer! :-) I’m also going to look for the fern planters there also.
