I’m excited to tell you about a new endeavor I’ve been working on for several weeks. I’m opening a booth in the local antique mall I blogged about here. I have four weeks to get this little spot ready to go. I’ll be painting walls, painting the floor and removing the existing metal and awning:
I’ve always dreamed of opening a shop, but felt like I’d be way in over my head at this point in my life. But, you know how I love the thrill of the hunt. So, the booth is the perfect solution. As for what I’ll be selling, it’ll be things that I like. I’m trying to be careful that every piece I choose is something I would want to put in my own home. I’m excited about sharing my finds and reviving furniture. I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’m sure there will be lots to learn as I go. For now, I’ve signed a six-month lease so we’ll see what happens.
My booth will be located just inside the back room, right by the new café. The aisles are named like streets, and I have a Park Avenue address :)
Of course, you know the best part of this is the actual treasure hunting. Few things make me happier.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing some of the furniture makeovers and items I’ll be selling. (Unfortunately, I won’t be doing any shipping, but I hope my non-local readers will still enjoy hearing about the process!)
If you haven’t visited yet, the Catawba River Antique Mall is located in Belmont, NC. I’ll be officially opened for business on May 1st. Hope to see some of you there!
Way to go mama!!! So cool and what a great way to test the waters of retail. Now if you only lived in Utah. Dang! ;)
Yea! Congratulations to you. You look really excited & I wish you much success!

That is fantastic! Congratulations! As a long-time reader, I’m so excited for you! Maybe this Kansas girl will get out that way someday :)

#awesome. I love Catawba River antiques and visit often. Can’t wait to see your booth!
That’s fantastic! As a long time reader and Charlotte resident, this makes me happy for you and for me (to visit)! And can I say it sounds like my dream job? I’ve been toying with a similar idea – let me know if you seriously want a second pair of hands to help or have any graphic design needs (I’m a professional :) ) !!
How exciting. Best of luck, can’t wait to see your finds! xo Sarah
Congrats Emily! That sounds like so much fun! I have always wanted a store too…maybe you’ll inspire me to get a booth in Connecticut. Happy Hunting! Holly
How exciting!! I’m a Belmont native and have only stopped by there once. I’ll be sure to come check out your spot! best of luck :)
Congrats! I’m always thinking about doing this! Can’t wait to see what you do with the space and the items you will be selling.
I congratulate your endeavor. You really will do well choosing items that you would place in your home. That’s definitely on track since we all love your home inspirations. Best wishes.
How exciting! I wish I could visit. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your booth and how you put it together. I would love this. EEK! Happy for you. xx
Congratulations! I wish I lived closer so I could visit!

As a long time reader I’ve enjoyed every adventure you’ve shared with us. I’m thrilled about your newest venture. Best of luck Emily.
So exciting! That’s something I always wanted to do too!

Congratulations!!! That is very exciting! I would love to travel to see your booth. My husband’s parents live in Asheville. I am excited to see and read about your new adventure…I have also dreamed of having my own little “Home” business like that. So happy for you! :-)
Congrats Emily. I love the antique mall
I’m in Greensboro, but will be coming down for a visit for sure. Congratulations on your new endeavor!
Oh, how exciting! Congratulations!
Exciting news! Even better I am a local reader, cant wait to shop!
Congrats on this, Emily! I know you’ll do a really wonderful job and it would be fun to get to buy things like that, but probably hard to part with a lot of it. :)
So excited for you! This has always been a dream of mine :)
How exciting! I’m currently living in the Lake Wylie, SC area; so I will definitely come visit your booth. I’m relatively new to the area, and have been wanting to visit the Catawba Antique Mall anyway. Looking forward to seeing all of your treasure finds. Good luck!
Emily, that’s awesome! We are in Huntersville so I will definitely check it out as we’re in Belmont about once a month visiting family! So excited for you and I’m interested to see how it goes. I have considered doing this in our area for awhile now!
That’s so exciting. I can’t wait to see what it looks like!
Oh you will love having dealer space. It’s so fun to put your stamp on a spot and then have people actually BUY stuff out of it! YAY, good luck!!
Emily you will love doing this! I have missed my little store so much since we’ve moved to Germany. It is great because the booth will give you license to shop without feeling guilty and best of all you can buy the “new” items for yourself and cycle old item from your home into the booth. Perfect! Wish I lived a little closer so I could come by and do some some shopping!
Yes, that’s my “business plan” :) Happy to hear any advice you may have for me!
Congratulations! What an exciting adventure! I just wished I lived closer so I could shop your space!!
How fun!! Congrats Emily. I’ve been wanting to check that place out and once you are up and running I’ll definitely come shop. I’m a designer in Charlotte w little ones also (on hiatus due to little ones) but if you ever need a partner in crime for some shopping expeditions, I’d be happy to help!
Woohooo! Congrats! I’m so excited for you! And, a little concerned about the time this is going to take away from our imaginary friendship…
None at all, I’m sure! :)
How exciting! I can’t wait for you to show us all your creative projects and what you sell. There are many antique type of shops in my area too. I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing. We’ll see…
I live just down the road in Mt Holly, and I cannot wait to come see what you have!!
How exciting! I see a road trip from Raleigh in my future!
Hi Emily, Have followed your blog for a few years now – love it and have learned so much from you (and not just about design!). Congratulations on this next step, it sounds perfect. I live up in Boston, but one of my closest friends lives in Charlotte. The next time I’m down your way, I’ll definitely stop by the booth :) Good luck with this adventure!
Go on with your bad self! If I did not have a design business that is exactly what I would do. I had one 20 years ago and it was right up the street so it was a lot of fun. I can not wait to see it opened and stocked full of goodies:)
Oh my goodness, Emily! This is so exciting. I am so happy for you. What a wonderful way to begin your dream of being a shop owner. Sounds like a perfect match!! :)
Just discovered this fabulous blog! Congrats to you, I have a booth and it’s a lot of work, but definitely fun and exciting looking forward to following!
Congrats Emily! I had a booth one time and it was a lot of fun. I hope I can do it again some day!

Thanks, Nicole. I’ll find your booth next time I’m there :)
sorry to say Emaily, but I left catawba mill first of may….hope all is going well for you there…
how exciting! I had a space for many years and loved it (greenville, sc). and every now and again, I get the bug to go back into it. I am an hour or two from charlotte, and I try to get to the metrolina and to ikea when I can. Not sure how far Belmont is, but maybe I can stop by sometime. wishing you all the best, donna
Hi Donna, Belmont is about 30 minutes from IKEA–just off 85. You’d love it. A really cute little town.
Congrats! :) & those pillows!!! I’m obsessed. I’m on the next flight to NC, haha. Good luck!!!
