After my post last week on different approaches to decorating a mantel, I decided to play around with accessorizing ours. I needed a little change as I (impatiently) wait for Spring to get here. In both scenarios, I used most of the same accessories. For my first attempt, I went for a little more layering and color:
For the second look, I went more neutral, using my favorite combo of texture, glass and a little green:
I picked up the snake plant earlier this week. The tag said it was almost impossible to kill (well, not in those exact words).
I’m leaning toward the cleaner, simpler look for now. What do you think?
I like a cleaner look too on mantels right now. It’s so fun to play around with :) xo Kristin
So pretty!
I like the second look as well. I always love the layered look in other people’s home, but then I tend to keep it simple in my own! Love that plant, too. I may have to get one if it is that hard to kill (challenge accepted)!
they are both so fun, pretty, and eclectic! i love the second with just the hint of nature!
The second is my favorite. Love your snake plant, I’ve been wanting one of those too!
I just bought a snake plant last week, too. I didn’t even know it was called that. I’ve noticed that when I have one busy wall, I need the decor on my next wall in view to be more monotone and symmetrical, otherwise it’s too busy for my eyes
I like the cleaner look! So pretty! I also love the antelope? that I see reflected in your mirror! May I ask where you found that gem?
Clearance aisle at HomeGoods right before Christmas!
love the 2nd mantle! where did u get that black and white stripe throw over the chair?? love it!
It’s the infamous $20 throw from IKEA. I love it.
Love the simpler look. Perfect for spring.
I love the mantel! I can vouch for the hardiness of the snake plant – I am a serial plant killer and my snake plant is thriving!
#2 FOR SURE!!!
I like the second set up better!
I love your style. I don’t have a mantle, but I prefer simpler, too. The snake plant, also known as mother-in-law tongue (!) is very hard to kill. My mom inherited my grandmother’s plant. It’s 60+ years old.
The second mantle. I love the elegant simplicity of it!
They are both beautiful! I am definitely in a “cleaner is more” mindset right now.
Definitely # @. Love your blog – a must visit daily for me.
i say win win! :)
Much prefer the second one!
The plainer one I prefer. If it is too cluttered I panic that something will fall or get knocked off and break.
You picked a good planter for the snack plant, I want one for my mantle. Oh, #2.
^^Snake plant^^ grrrr.
Glad you clarified. I was about to eat it :)
Love the new look as well. Where oh where did you find that fabulous radial wood mirror?? Just throw about a quarter cup of water on the soil of the sansiveria once in a while & it will live practically forever! I heard they can even do well inside a closet!!
Thanks for the tip. The mirror is from Ballard Designs.
I love the less is more look, too. Especially in my small home…we don’t have the space for a playroom, so the toys and…junk…make their home in our living room. But as my husband kindly (always) reminds me, “It’s the girls’ house, too.” Also, on a side note, I literally LOLed when I saw your daughters unibrow photo & the caption. As a PreK teacher myself, I would have given her a gold star!
I like the second one better. So clean.
I love both, but am drawn to the clean look. And yes, snake plants are almost impossible to kill. I always tell people, “they’re the plants you see in the dark elevator entry at the hospital or mall, if they can live there, they can live anywhere!”
